Surround Setup
Oncethe basicinput setup hasbeen com-
pleted, the next step isto setthe surround
modeyou wish to usewith an input.Since
surroundmodesarea matter of personaltaste,
feel free to selectany modeyou wish - you
maychangeit later. However, t o makeit easier
to establishthe initial parameters for the
AVR220, it is bestto selectDolbyProLogicII
for mostanalog inputsand DolbyDigitalfor
inputsconnected to digital sources. I n the case
of inputssuchasa CD Player, T apeDeckor
Tuner, y ou may wish to set the modeto Stereo
(asthey are not typicallyusedwith multichan-
nel programmaterial),whereit is unlikelythat
surround-encoded m aterialwill be used.
Alternatively, t he Logic7 Musicmode is a good
choicefor stereo-onlysourcematerial.
NOTE:If you haveselectedLogic7 C or M as
yoursurroundmodefor the current listening
session, a nd you'reusing a digital input, and
you haven'tchangedthe default surround
modefor that input sourceto the sameLogic7
mode, you will noticethat, if the digital signal is
interruptedfor any reason(suchasstoppingthe
sourcedevice),upon resumptionof the signal,
the AVR220 will use a different surround
mode.In fact, the AVR220 will usewhichever
modewasset asthe default for that source.
Thefactory default for all sources is Stereo
mode,unlessthe receiverdetectsa Dolby
Digitalor DTSbitstream.
It is easiestto completethe surroundsetup
usingthe fulI-OSD on-screenmenus.From the

you to the delaysettings.
Delay Settings
If DolbyDigitalor DolbyPro LogicII is selected
asthe surroundmodefor an input, you may
needto adjustthe delay time setting.Note that
the delaytime is not adjustablefor any other
modes.
Dueto the different distancesbetweenthe
listeningpositionfor the front-channelspeakers
andthe surroundspeakers, the amountof time
it takes for soundto reachyourearsfrom the
front versussurroundspeakers differs.Youmay
compensate for this differencethrough the use
of the delaysettingsto adjustthe timing for the
specificspeakerplacementand acousticcondi-
tions in your listeningroomor home theater.
Thefactory setting is appropriatefor most
rooms,but someinstallationscreatean uncom-
