Programming the Remote
TheAVR220 is equippedwith a powerful
remotecontrol that will control not only the
receiver's functions,but also most popular
brandsof audio and video equipment,including
CD players, c assettedecks, T Vsets,cable boxes,
VCRs, s atellite receivers and other hometheater
equipment.Oncethe AVR220's remote is pro-
grammedwith the codesfor the productsyou
own, it is possibleto eliminate mostother
remotesandreplacethem with the convenience
of a single,universalremotecontrol.
Programming the Remote
Asshippedfrom the factory,the remoteis fully
programmed for all AVR220 functions,aswell
asthoseof mostHarmanKardonCDchangers,
DVDplayers, C Dplayers andcassette decks.In
addition,byfollowing oneof the methodsbelow,
you may program the remoteto operatea wide
rangeof devices from othermanufacturers.
Direct Code Entry
Thismethod is the easiestway to programyour
remoteto work with different products.
1. Usethe tablesin the following pagesto
determinethe three-digitcodeor codesthat
match boththe producttype (e.g.,VCR,TV),
andthe specificbrandname.If there is
morethan one numberfor a brand,make
note of the different choices.
2. Turnon the unit you wish to programinto
the AVR220 remote.
3. Pressand hold boththe Input Selector
O
for the productyou wish to control
(e.g.,VCR,TV)andthe Mute Button
at the sametime.Whenthe Program/SPL
Indicator O
turns amberand begins
flashing,releasethe buttons.It isimportant
that you beginthe next step within 20
seconds.
4. Pointthe AVR220's remotetowardsthe unit
to be programmed andenterthe first three-
digit codenumberusingthe Numeric Keys
(1_. Ifthe unitturns off, the correct c odehas
beenentered.Press the Input Selector
again,and notethat the red light will flash
threetimes beforegoing darkto confirmthe
entry.
5. If the deviceto be programmedin doesNOT
turn off, continueto enterthree-digit code
numbersuntil the equipmentturns off. At
this point, the correctcodehas been
entered.Pressthe Input Selector
againand note that the redlight underthe
Input Selector _
will flashthree times
beforegoing darkto confirmthe entry.

Tryall of the functions on the remoteto
makecertainthat the productoperates
properly.Keepin mindthat manymanufac-
turers usea numberof different combina-
tions of codes, s o it is a good idea to make
certainthat not only the power control,but
the volume,channeland transportcontrols
work as they should. If functionsdo not
work properly,you may needto use a differ-
ent remotecode.
If a codecannot be enteredto turn the
unit off, if the codefor your product does
not appear in the tables in this manual,or
if not all functions operate properly,try
programmingthe remote with the Auto
SearchMethod.
Auto Search Method
Ifthe unit youwish to includein the AVR220's
remoteis not listedin the codetablesinthis
manualor if the codedoesnot seemto operate
properly, y ou may wish to program the correct
codeusingthe Auto Search methodthat follows:
1.Turnon the unit that you wish to includein
the AVR220 remote.
Press the Input Selector _
for the type
of productto be entered(e.g.,VCR,TV)and
the Mute Button _
at the sametime.
Holdboth buttonsuntil the redlight under
the Input Selector O
stayslit. Notethat
the next step musttake placewhilethe red
light is on, and it must beginwithin 20 sec-
ondsafter the light appears.
3. Pointthe AVR220 remotetowardsthe
unit to be programmed and presseither the
• or • Button _.
Eachpresswill
sendout a seriesof codesfrom the remote's
built-indatabase. W henthe unit being
programmed turnsoff, releasethe • or•
Button _,
asthat is yourindication
that the correctcodeis in use.

Pressthe Input Selector II_D,and note
that the redlight underthe Input Selector
will flash threetimes beforegoingdark to
confirmthe entry.
Tryall of the functions on the remoteto
makecertainthat the productoperates.
Keepin mindthat manymanufacturers use
a number of different combinationsof
codes, a nd it is a good ideato makecertain
that not onlythe powercontrol works, but
alsothat the volume,channeland transport
controlsfunction properly.If all functionsdo
not work properly,you may needto Auto-
Searchfor a differentcode,or entera code
viathe DirectCode Entrymethod.
Code Readout
Whenthe codehas beenenteredusingthe Auto
Searchmethod,it is alwaysa good idea to find
out the exactcodesothat it maybe easilyreen-
teredif necessary. Youmay alsoread the codes
to verifywhich devicehasbeen programmed to
a specificControlSelectorbutton.
Pressand hold both the Input Selector
for the devicefor which you wish to
find the codeand the Mute Button
at the sametime. Note that the
Program/SPI.Indicator I_
will initally
turn amber.Releasethe buttons and begin
the next step within 20 seconds.
2. Press the Set Button qi_. The
Program/SPLIndicator _
will thenblink
greenin a sequence that corresponds
to the
three-digitcode, w ith a one-second pause
betweendigits.Countthe numberof blinks
betweenpauses to determinethe digit of the
code. O neblinkis the number1,two blinksis
the number2, andsoforth.Tenblinksare
usedto indicatea "0."
Example: O ne blink,followed bya one-second
pause,followed by six blinks,followed by a
one-second pause,followed by ten blinksindi-
catesthat the codehas beensetto 160.
