FREQUENCY METERS 532A/b
OPERATING NOTE 29 JAN 68
FRtilUrSCy
Fig. 1. Model 532A/B Frequency Meter
INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTION
1. The Model 532A/B direct-reading frequency me
ters offer good accuracy over an entire waveguide
band. The meter consists of a TE^j^i mode resonant
cavity coupled to a waveguide section.
When tuned
to resonance, a fraction of the power is absorbed,
and consequently there is a dip of about 1 dB in the
transmitted power. The frequency at which this dip
occurs may be read directly from the scale.
2. The high-Q resonant cavity is tuned by a choke
plunger. Adjustment of the plunger is by means of a
precision lead screw which is spring-loaded to pre
vent backlash. There are no sliding contacts.
The
base of the 532A/B will accommodate the shaft insert
of a waveguide stand such as the HP Model 11540A.
INSTALLATION
3. UNPACKING AND INSPECTION.
4. The frequency meter was carefully inspected,
mechanically and electrically, prior to shipment. In
spect it for mechanical damage incurred i n transit,
check for supplied accessories, and test electrical
performance. If there is damage or deficiency, notify
the carrier and the nearest Hewlett- Packard office
(HP offices are listed at the rear of this manual). In
the event of mechanical damage, the packing materials
and carton should be held for carrier's inspection.
5. REPACKAGING FOR SHIPMENT.
6. USING ORIGINAL PACKAGING. The same con
tainers and materials used in factory packaging can be
obtained through the Hewlett-Packard sales and service
offices listed at the rear of this manual.
7. If the Model 532A/B is being returned to Hewlett-
Packard for servicing, attach a tag indicating the type
of service required, return address, model number
and full serial number. Also, mark the container
FRAGILE to assure careful handling. In any correspon
dence refer to the instrument by model number and full
serial number.
8. USING OTHER PACKAGING. The following general
instructions should be used for repackaging with com
mercially-available materials:
a. Wrap the instrument in heavy paper or plastic.
(If shipping to a Hewlett-Packard service office or
center, attach a tag indicating the type of service re
quired, return address, model number, and full serial
number.)
b. Use a strong shipping container. A double-wall
carton made of 350 pound test material is adequate.
c. Use enough shock-absorbing material (3- to 4-inch
layer) around all sides of the instrument to provide
firm cushion and prevent movement inside the con
tainer. Protect the dial windows with cardboard.
d. Seal the shipping container securely.
e. Mark the shipping container FRAGILE to assure
careful handling.
