Using the group functions to manage your xSeries Hosting Appliances

The Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility uses groups to automatically
categorize discovered xSeries Hosting Appliances and to configure them with
network settings. Groups enable you to display and configure network settings for
multiple appliances at the same time.
Group types are defined by appliance type or purpose. Each group can contain
only one type of xSeries Hosting Appliance. xSeries Hosting Appliances can belong
only to a group that matches the type of xSeries Hosting Appliance. You can drag
and drop xSeries Hosting Appliances from one group to another as long as the
xSeries Hosting Appliance type matches the group.
Note: If the Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility is configured to not assign

v Display network settings
v Provide a shortcut to HostingDirector
If the appliance network settings are configured by a method other than using the
Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility, the xSeries Hosting Appliance is still
discovered, and it joins the first group that matches the xSeries Hosting Appliance.
If no matching group exists, the xSeries Hosting Appliance is listed in the
Unassigned Appliances list.
The Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility window lists the following items
(see Figure 10):

settings, it does not configure any of the network settings of the xSeries
Hosting Appliance.
Every discovered xSeries Hosting Appliance is listed under all appliances.
This view shows all groups that are defined, with xSeries Hosting
Appliances that are assigned to each group nested beneath the group name
in the Tree view. The IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility
automatically assigns one IP address per xSeries Hosting Appliance, using
