PREPARATIONS FOR BROADCAST RECEPTION
The
following
illustrations
are
all for the VSX-5000,
however the method of using the VSX-4000 is identical.
DIRECT ACCESS TUNING
When you know the frequency of the desired station, the fre-
quency
can
be input directly using the STATION
CALL
(number) switches in the following way:
1 Press the POWER switch to the ON posi-
tion.
2 Select either FM
or AM
using the Band
Selector.
3 When listening to FM broadcasts, use the
FM
ANT
switch
to select the type
of
broadcast.
¢To receive CATV FM broadcasts, press the switch so
that the B (CATV) indicator lights.
¢ This switch has no effect on the reception of AM broad-
casts.

Press the DIRECT ACCESS switch.

Input the desired station frequency using
the STATION CALL switches.
Example 1: To receive FM 106.00 MHz

@ When the CHANNEL STEP switch is set to FM 100 kHz,
the tuning operation is completed and reception begins.

¢ When the CHANNEL STEP switch is set to FM 50 kHz:
After. completing input of the station frequency, the receiver
detects whether the input frequency is within receivable fre-
quency range; if it is within this range, the characters "IN"
disappear, and reception begins.
G Adjust the sound
volume
and tone
as
desired.
To cancel input:

During the about ten seconds that the "IN" indicator is
lighted, do not press any of the STATION CALL switches
(1—10[0]).

During the time the "IN" indicator is lighted, press the
DIRECT ACCESS switch.
Notes regarding FM or AM direct access tun-
ing

When the CHANNEL STEP switch is set to the AM 10 kHz
position, there is no need to input the last digit '0' of the
desired station frequency. Depending on the station fre-
quency, inputting the first two or three digits is sufficient.
If you input the incorrect frequency:

When
frequency
numbers
are input, the receiver judges
whether the first digit input is correct; incorrect inputs will
not be accepted. Acceptable first digit inputs:
FM: 1, 8, 9, AM: 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

If a frequency
outside
the receiver's
range

the
display
will
indicate
"ERROR,"
and
reception will return
to the frequency
