The purpose of recording readiness status is to allow inspectors to determine if the vehicle’s OBDII system has tested all the components and/or systems.

The purpose of completing an OBD II drive cycle is to force the vehicle to run its onboard diagnostics.

It is required that petrol vehicles manufactured during and after 1996 and diesel vehicles manufactured during and after 2004 (cars and light trucks) must be OBD II compliant.
