Grasp the starter handle as shown and pull slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly to start engine and avoid kickback. Return it slowly to the rope guide. WArNING Rapid retraction of starter cord (kickback) will pull hand and arm toward engine faster than you can let go.

Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting.

Periodically inspect the blade adapter for cracks, especially if you strike a foreign object.
