Motion-Control Levers
The motion-control levers control the forward and
rearward motions as well as the turning of the
machine. Refer to
Driving the Machine (page
Parking-Brake Lever
Whenever you shut off the engine, engage the parking
brake to prevent accidental movement of the machine.
To engage the parking brake, pull the parking-brake
lever rearward and up

Ignition Switch
The ignition switch has 3 positions: O

Throttle Lever
The throttle lever controls the speed of the engine,
the speed of the blades, and, in conjunction with
motion-control levers, the ground speed of the
machine. Moving the throttle lever forward toward the

position increases the engine speed. Moving

throttle in the F
position when cutting grass.

Power-Takeoff (PTO) Switch
The power-takeoff (PTO) switch starts and stops the
mower blades.

The hour meter records the number of hours that

Engine-Coolant-Temperature
Warning Light
This light illuminates and the cutting blades stop if
the engine-coolant temperature is high. If you do not
stop the machine and the coolant temperature rises
another 11° C (20° F), the engine shuts off.
Important:
the temperature warning light is on, push the
PTO knob down, drive to a safe, flat area, move
the throttle lever to the S

position, and engage the parking brake. Idle the
engine for several minutes while it cools to a safe

level. Shut off the engine and check the cooling
system; refer to

42).
Charge-Indicator Light
The charge-indicator light illuminates when the system

charging circuit malfunctions.
Oil-Pressure Warning Light
The oil-pressure warning light glows if the engine-oil
pressure drops below a safe level

the cause. Repair the engine-oil system before you
start the engine again.
