Compatibility
The Surly Double Wide Kickstand is designed for use only with select Surly Cargo bikes. It is compatible with Big Dummy (all models)
and Big Easy 1.0 (downtube battery only). It is NOT compatible with dual-battery setups, Big Easy 2.0, or Big Fat Dummy.
Tools Required for Installation

6mm hex wrench
•
10, 11mm (or 7/16in) socket wrench (extension will help)
•
Torque wrench capable of 3-15 Nm
•
Grease

CAUTION: STAINLESS HARDWARE GALLING
Stainless hardware can gall if not installed properly, causing the hardware to fail. Avoid galling by following the
recommendations below. If hardware is damaged during installation, contact Surly for genuine replacement hardware.

Thread hardware slowly during installation and removal to minimize heat buildup.
Never use any power tools when assembling the hardware
•
Keep the threads clean and free of dirt, dust, and other materials that increase friction
•
Use grease where specified (Kickstand frame pivot hardware - M8 pivot bolt and nut)
WARNING: Pinch Hazard
The kickstand is heavily sprung and pinch points may cause serious injury to fingers and hands. Do not place
fingers or hands between the kickstand legs and kickstand base plate during installation or maintenance.
Remove jewelry and wear appropriate, well-fitting gloves during installation and maintenance.
Pinch Point Identification: Avoid contact with hazard locations shown in Figure 1 below. Have the kickstand
serviced by a professional bicycle mechanic if you do not have the tools or safety equipment necessary to
prevent injury.
