    Note: Your network must have a high-speed Internet connection, as the Sonos Digital Music System is designed to provide you with online software updates. Your Sonos system must be registered to receive these updates so be sure to register during the setup process. Sonos does not share your e-mail address with other companies.

    • Use the Desktop Controller to add the ZonePlayer to your Sonos Digital Music System by selecting Zones>Set Up Zones>Add. • Use a Sonos Controller to add the ZonePlayer to your Sonos Digital Music System by selecting System Settings During the setup process, you will be asked to press and release the Mute and Volume Up buttons simultaneously on the ZonePlayer you are adding to the Sonos Digital Music System.

    Chapter 2: ZonePlayer Setup and Operation When a ZonePlayer is in Sonos Extender mode, it does not display in your Zones menu. When you change it back to normal operation using the ZonePlayer Settings screen, it will appear as an unnamed zone and you can rename it at that time.

    The Sonos Setup Wizard Welcome screen appears. Click Next. The Sonos Digital Music System is designed to provide you with online software updates. At this time you will be prompted to check for the latest software update. You can either check now, or check after you install the Sonos Digital Music System.

    If you have a music service enabled on your computer, you can make radio station selections from the music service as well. • Use the Radio tab to display and select from a Sonos-supplied list of streaming MP3 or WMA broadcasts. You can make changes to this list using both the Desk- top Controller software and your Controller.
  • Page 45 Select the desired setting, and click OK. Adding a radio station You can add a radio station that does not appear in your Sonos-supplied list. You must know the streaming URL, and the station must use the streaming MP3 broadcast format.

    Over time, you may wish to add or remove music folders from this list. These music folders are indexed by the Sonos Digital Music System so that you can view your music by categories. If you add new music to a folder that is already indexed, you can update your music index to add this music to your library.
  • Page 47 Some music services may automatically change the permissions on your music folders when you add new music, so that Sonos can no longer access your music. Check the box below if you want Sonos to reset permissions to allow access when reindexing your music.

    Line-In encoding (DCR) If you have line-in music sources attached to a ZonePlayer, line-in encoding determines how the Sonos Digital Music System will encode the data coming in from these sources. Compressed encoding is the high-quality system default. For the highest quality sound you can select Uncompressed encoding (this selection requires more network resources than compressed audio).

    If you wish to remove the Desktop Controller software from your Macintosh computer, choose Uninstall Sonos from the Sonos menu, and then drag the application to the trash. The Sonos Digital Music System will no longer be able to access music from this computer.
