VSX Version 8.0 Enhancements for the VSX 6000 and VSX 7000
In July 2005, the VSX product line was enhanced with version 8.0 of the VSX software. The VSX 6000 and VSX 7000 both received significant
enhancements, improving video quality as well as system functionality and flexibility. The enhancements are listed below.
Video
H.264 video up to 768Kbps – Previously H.264 was supported at data rates up to 512Kbps. Now, with support up to 768Kbps, users will
realize even better video at a wide range of data rates. H.264 video provides twice the video quality at any given data rate – so a call at
384Kbps will look like a call at 768Kbps.
Baseline mode support – Now it is easier than ever to communicate with legacy systems or systems from other vendors that do not
employ the latest video and audio standards. In the web user interface, any VSX system can be set to "baseline mode" which uses basic
communication standards, H.261 for video and G.711 for audio. This setting can be turned on and off as needed.
Data
Transparent RS-232 for H.323 – Previously transparent RS-232 support was limited to H.320. Now, peripherals such as medical devices
that require a transparent bypass through the RS-232 port can be used during both ISDN and IP calls.
Adjustable bandwidth for People+Content™ – Now you can choose how much bandwidth to dedicate for your data versus the people
talking. Settings include 90% for Content and 10% for People; 10% for Content and 90% for People; or leave it with factory settings, which
are 50% Content and 50% People.
Document camera and VCR/DVD as Content source – Now you can view images from document cameras and VCR/DVDs as Content.
This means that in a dual monitor configuration, the speaker will be on one monitor and the document camera or VCR/DVD images will show
up on the second monitor. At no time will the data or Content being shown replace the person(s) speaking.
