Adding dry ink

Inks

Dry ink is the black or colored powder that forms the image on
the printed page. This chapter describes the procedure for
adding dry ink to the printer. This chapter also describes the
procedure to change the Customer Changeable Unit (CCU) that
allows additional colors to be used.
You do not need to monitor the amount of dry ink remaining in
the bottle at any given time; the system monitors it for you.
When the Attention light is a steady yellow and a message
displays on the printer control console indicating that the printer
is low on either black or color dry ink, add dry ink at your earliest
convenience. If you do not add dry ink, the Attention light turns a
modulated yellow, and the printer eventually stops printing. The
printer will not resume printing until you replace the dry ink bottle.
When the message BLACK DRY INK BOTTLE IS EMPTY or
COLOR DRY INK BOTTLE IS EMPTY appears on the printer
control console, the graphic display indicates the location of the
dry ink bottle.
NOTE: Do not discard damaged, unused dry ink bottles. Return
the bottles to Xerox for exchange (for credit in the USA).
To prevent dry ink spillage, remove the bottle only when directed
to do so by a message on the printer control console.
To add dry ink:
1. Open the printer doors and locate the dry ink area on the left
side of the printer.
NOTE: When you replace colored dry ink, it is not necessary
to remove the CCU from the printer.
