Switch port configuration
Tagged/trunk mode (recommended)
Untagged/access mode
In the Data Manager Appliance Configuration UI, you initially configure one VLAN. After you complete the initial appliance
configuration in the Data Manager Appliance Configuration UI, you can add additional VLANs in the Data Manager Appliance
UI.
● MTU - Make a note of the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size on the switch ports. When you log in to the
PowerProtect DM5500 Appliance Install UI, the MTU size on the switch ports must be greater than or equal to the 1500
MTU size setting in the UI.
● Bonding Options - Set to Active-Active in the Data Manager Appliance Configuration UI. Active-Active is the network
bonding mode where both ports are active and the internal network traffic is load balanced between them. If one of the
active ports goes down, the remaining active port continues to distribute the internal network traffic. Active-Active bonding
does not require any corresponding switch side configuration.

DNS

The Management IP address must be registered in DNS, with forward and reverse lookup entries. Data IP addresses are not
required to be registered. The DNS hostnames can contain only numbers, letters, and hyphen (-).
For the DNS, you will need:
● Primary DNS Server - For example, 10.254.61.23
● Secondary DNS Server (Optional) - For example, 10.254.61.24
Collect DM5500 serial number, NTP, and time zone
information
You must collect the following information before logging in to the Data Manager Appliance Configuration UI.
● DM5500 serial number - The DM5500 serial number is located on the pull-out information tag in the back of the DM5500
to the right of the power supply units. You will need the 14-character serial number because it is used as part of the
password
when you log in to the Data Manager Appliance Configuration UI for the first time to perform the initial DM5500
configuration.
● NTP servers - For example, 10.254.137.22
The NTP server(s) must meet the following requirements:
○ The NTP server must be a physical server with its own hardware clock (if you plan to have your own local NTP server) or
any public NTP server.
○ The NTP server must not use the Windows W32tm service for time synchronization because it is unreliable.
○ The DM5500 supports up to two NTP servers. If you are using two NTP servers to configure the DM5500, the NTP
servers must be in sync with each other.
● Time zone - Time zone in which the DM5500 is located. For example, America/Cayman - Eastern Standard Time
