Chapter 1 DT9835 Key Hardware Features The DT9835 function module provides 64 shared digital I/O lines (grouped in banks of eight) and 32 dedicated digital input lines. Sixteen of the 32 dedicated digital input lines are capable of generating an interrupt to the host computer if the value of the line changes state.

EP331 cable. This screw terminal panel allows you to connect all of the input and output connections that are supported by a DT9835 module. LEDs on up to 64 of the outputs light when the outputs are low. Note that LEDs are not provided for the dedicated digital input lines.
The flow diagram shown in Figure 1 illustrates the steps needed to get started using the DT9835 function module. This diagram is repeated in each chapter; the shaded area in the diagram shows you where you are in the getting started procedure.

Installing a Function Module You can attach a DT9835 module to the host computer in one of two ways: • Connect directly to a USB port of the host computer, described on page 18. Use this method if one or two DT9835 function modules are sufficient for your application.
Figure 2: Attaching the DT9835 Function Module Directly to the Host Computer If the DT9835 Device Driver has not been installed, the New Hardware Found wizard appears. Click Next to have the wizard search for the DT9835 Device Driver, then proceed to step 4.
Page 27
A New Hardware Found dialog box appears indicating that Windows is installing the driver for the USB device. Repeat the steps 1 to 3 to attach another DT9835 function module to the host computer, if desired. Note: You can unplug a module, then plug it in again, if you wish, without causing damage.
To connect a DT9835 function module to a self-powered USB hub, perform the following steps: Attach one end of the EP310 cable to the DT9835 module and the other end of the EP310 cable to a self-powered USB hub. Connect the power supply for the self-powered USB hub to an external power supply.
