Seats and Restraints
If the position you are using has an
adjustable head restraint and you are
using a dual tether, raise the head
restraint and route the tether under
the head restraint and in between
the head restraint posts.
3. Make sure the child restraint top tether
hook is completely closed and secured to
the top tether anchor.

Securing Child Restraints

Infants and children should be placed in the
rear seat and properly restrained, according
to the terms in this manual.
Danger
NEVER use a rearward-facing child
restraint on a seat protected by an
ACTIVE AIRBAG in front of it; DEATH or
SERIOUS INJURY to the CHILD can occur.
Danger
A child in a rear-facing child restraint can
be seriously injured or killed if the front
outboard passenger frontal airbag
inflates. This is because the back of the
rear-facing child restraint would be very
close to the inflating airbag. A child in a
forward-facing child restraint can be
seriously injured or killed if the front
outboard passenger frontal airbag inflates
and the passenger seat is in a forward
position.
If the child restraint uses a top tether, see
Where to Put the Restraint 0 37 for top
tether anchor locations.
Do not secure a child restraint in a position
without a top tether anchor if a national or
local law requires that the top tether be
anchored, or if the instructions that come
with the child restraint say that the top
tether must be anchored.
When using the lap-shoulder belt to secure
the child restraint in this position, follow the
instructions that came with the child
restraint and the following instructions:
1. Put the child restraint on the seat.
2. Pick up the latch plate, and run the lap
and shoulder portions of the vehicle's
seat belt through or around the child
restraint. The child restraint instructions
will show you how.
3. Push the latch plate into the buckle until
it clicks.
Position the release button on the
buckle, away from the child restraint, so
that the seat belt could be quickly
unbuckled if necessary.
4. Follow the instructions in the child
restraint owner s manual to tighten the
child restraint when using the vehicle
seat belt.
5. If the child restraint has a top tether,
follow the child restraint manufacturer s
instructions regarding the use of the top
tether. See ISOFIX Child Restraint Systems
0 41.
