In Manual mode, make sure the exposure setting is
Auto Exposure . You can choose from 21 settings in
increments of 0.2, from 2.0 to 2.0 EV.

Setting Shutter Speed and Aperture

Experienced photographers can set the exposure manually by
adjusting the shutter speed and aperture settings.
NOTE
To set the aperture setting and let your camera automatically
determine the shutter speed, you can use the Aperture Priority
settings; see page 5-4.
