How to attach and remove lens

Follow the instructions indicated in the camera user manual when attaching or removing the lens.
Be careful not to bump the lens during attachment or removal.

Focusing

This lens is a manual focus lens. To align the focus on the object, turn the focus ring and align it by checking the camera focus indicators or the LCD monitor.
The aperture on this lens is not linked to the camera. Therefore, use the aperture ring on the lens to set the aperture. Selecting a dark aperture (F value) may cause the LCD monitor to go dark. Adjust the F value, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity to make the LCD monitor visible, and then adjust the focus.

Exposure mode

Compatible exposure modes are "manual mode" and "aperture mode". Rotate the lens aperture ring to change the aperture. You cannot set this from the camera body.

[Manual mode]
Set the camera mode dial to M (manual mode). Next, rotate the lens aperture ring and camera front/back dial to adjust the shutter speed.

[Aperture mode]
Set the camera mode dial to A (aperture mode). When you rotate the lens aperture ring, the shutter speed is determined automatically.
*Follow the instructions indicated in the camera user manual to configure each mode.

Camera body settings

This lens has no electric contact points, so the camera will not recognize the lens. As such, you must set the camera settings to "No lens release – ON". Check your camera user manual for details.

Lens hood

Lens hoods prevent strong light from entering the lens directly from forward and reverse diagonal angles, which can result in flare or ghost images in photos. Use a lens hood to promote clear, clean photos, as well as to protect your lens.

  • Attaching the lens hood
Align the () mark on the lens hood with the hood attachment indicator () on the lens, and then rotate in the clockwise direction (from the front) until you hear a click. A lens hood cannot be attached in the reverse direction.

Filter

The lens protrudes so a screw-in filter cannot be attached.

Notes on use of built-in flash

Photography using the camera built-in flash or a compact flash may cause a portion of the flash light being blocked, which could result in lens shadow appearing on both sides of the photo. If this occurs, use an external flash.

Basic care and storage

  • Avoid any shock or impact to the lens, exposure to extremely high or low temperatures, and high humidity.
  • To prevent outbreak of mold, keep lens surface clean after use of lens. Do not use paint thinner, benzene, or other organic agents to remove dirt or finger prints from the lens elements. Clean with a soft moistened lens cloth or lens tissue.
  • When caring for the exterior of the lens, always wipe any dirt, dust, and debris with a chamois or silicone cloth. Make sure the lens barrel is also clean, along with front and rear elements
  • Select a cool and dry place for extended storage, preferably with good ventilation. To avoid damage to the lens coating, keep the lens away from mothballs or naphthalene gas.
  • This lens is not waterproof. If using this lens in the rain or near water, keep it from getting wet. It is often impractical to repair a lens or its components when damaged by water.
  • Sudden changes in temperature may cause condensation or fog on the lens elements. When entering a warm room from the cold, it is advisable to keep the lens in a case until the temperature of the lens reaches the temperature of the room.
