  • Page 4 STEP 1 Assemble The Bottom Frame 1.1 Assemble the frame using 1 1/2” x 5 1/2” pressure-treated material. You will need two boards cut to 12’ that will be the rim joist and two boards cut to 7’9” that will be the joist.
  • Page 5 STEP 2 Framing The Floor 2.1 Provide eight joists from the pressure-treated lumber with cross-section 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch and install them into the frame according to the drawing. 2.2 Secure the joists to the bottom frame with 3x4" screws.
  • Page 6 STEP 3 Assemble The Aviary's Bottom Frame 3.1 Assemble the rim joists (11'-7" and joists (7'-9" from the 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch pressure-treated lumber to the frame according to the drawing with сorner braces and 8x1" wood screws (Node B). 3.2 Using a speed square or carpenter's square, check the corners to make sure the corners are 90 degrees or square.
  • Page 7 STEP 4 Assembling the Rafters and Wall Frames At this step, you will need 3 1/2” x 5 1/2” material to create the rafters and the wall studs. 4.1 Using Node C as a guide, cut 12 boards for the rafters. 4.2 Using Node D as a guide, cut 12 boards for the wall studs.
  • Page 8 STEP 5 Installing the Roof Sheathing 5.1 Cut 9/16” plywood using the measurements in the drawing below to serve as the roof sheathing. Secure with 2” wood screws.
  • Page 9 STEP 6 Install the Metal Roofing 6.1 Using Node’s H and I, prepare the sheet metal (23 Gauge) by making the indicated cuts and bends. 6.2 Use 1 1/2” sheet metal screws and neoprene washers to secure the roofing. Self-tapping screws cost a little more but make this step easier.
  • Page 10 STEP 7 Installing the Aviary Roofing 7.1 For the aviary, use 1/2” x 6” wood siding and cut to the dimensions shown in the illustration below. 7.2 Cut a 1/4” x 3/4” starter course using pressure treated material as shown in Node J. The starter course helps to maintain the correct angle for water run-off.
  • Page 11 STEP 8 Assemble Front Wall Frame 8.1 Assemble the frame from the pressure-treated lumber with cross-section 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch. 8.2 Connect the beams with 2x4" wood screws.
  • Page 12 STEP 9 Front Door Assemble And Installation 9.1 Assemble the frame from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 " with 5" wood screws according to the drawing. Prepare and install 9/16" plywood sheet. 9.2 Install door trims from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 2 1/2 x 3/4" according to the drawing.
  • Page 13 STEP 10 Assemble Inner Wall Frame 10.1 Assemble the frame from the pressure-treated lumber with cross-section 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch. 10.2 Connect the beams with 2x4" wood screws.
  • Page 14 STEP 11 Aviary's Mesh Walls Assemble And Installation For this step, you will need to build four frames. 11.1 Start by cutting 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” pressure treated material using the measurements in the following illustrations. 11.2 Prepare 1/4" wire mesh in the required quantity and install it on the inner side of the frames by industrial stapler.
  • Page 15 STEP 12 Aviary's Door Assemble And Installation 12.1 Assemble the frame from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 2 1/2 x 1 1/2" with 2x5" wood screws according to the drawing. 12.2 Prepare 1/4" wire mesh in the required quantity and install it on the inner side of the frame with the help of industrial stapler.
  • Page 16 STEP 13 Final touches Now that your coop is all done, you are ready to decorate it any way you want using your favorite paint, stain, or preservative.
