4.4 Starting the engine from LOP (without Blue Line automation
system)
Preconditions
☑ Gearbox is disengaged.
☑ External start interlock is not activated.
☑ Emergency air-shut-off flaps (if provided) are open.
DANGER
Unguarded rotating and moving engine components.
Risk of serious injury – danger to life!
• Before barring or starting the engine, make sure that nobody is in the danger zone.
WARNING
Engine noise above 85 dB (A).
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.
Barring the engine (out-of-service period > 1 month)

Bar with starting system (→ Page 78).
Task
Make sure that engine is in unloaded condition.
Switch ON.
LOP:
• LOCAL OPERATION button is illuminated brightly (local operating
mode is active) (→ Page 50);
• CLUTCH NEUTRAL button is illuminated brightly (gearbox is disengag‐
ed) (→ Page 50).
Press READY FOR OPERATION button briefly (→ Page 50).
• READY FOR OPERATION button is illuminated brightly.
Press START button briefly (→ Page 50).
• START button of the engine concerned is illuminated brightly;
• Automatic starting procedure is performed;
• Tachometer indicates increasing crankshaft speed;
• After the starting procedure is completed, engine is running at idle
speed and START button is reset to basic illumination.
