Smocking

The decorative stitch over ruffles is called "smocking". Smocking is used to decorate the front of blouses or cuffs. The smocking stitch adds texture and
elasticity to the fabric.

Use the satin stitch foot (e).

Increase the stitch length to the maximum, set the thread ten-
sion below 2 and sew parallel baste seams
along the area to be smocked.

Knot the threads at one side.
Pull the lower threads
Secure the threads at the other end.

Reduce the tension if necessary and sew decorative stitches
between the straight baste seams.
4.
Remove the baste seams.
1 cm apart
and distribute the gathers evenly.
