  • Page 10 Disc mower GMD702F  Precautions to take before using the machine Do not wear loose clothing which could become caught up in moving parts. Wear the appropriate protective clothing for the work in hand (gloves, shoes, goggles, helmet, ear defenders, etc.).
  • Page 11 Disc mower GMD702F  Precautions when driving on public roads Dimensions Depending on the dimensions of the machine, contact the relevant authorities to ensure that it can be legally transported on public roads. If the machine is over the maximum legal size, follow the local regulations for special transportation of oversize equipment.
  • Page 12 Disc mower GMD702F  Precautions when coupling Before attaching the machine, make sure that it cannot accidentally start moving (chock the wheels) and that the parking stand is in the right position. The machine must only be attached to the hitch points provided for this purpose.

The protective shield of the tractor PTO stub, the PTO shaft guards and the protective shield of the machine input shaft must always be in place and in good condition.
  • Page 14 Disc mower GMD702F  Precautions during manoeuvres When moving the machine from the transport position to the working position and vice versa, make sure that nobody is within the machine pivoting area.  Remote controlled components Danger of crushing and shearing can exist when components are operated by hydraulic or pneumatic controls.

It is strongly recommended to have your machine checked by your Kuhn dealer after each season, especially tools and their attaching hardware.  Projection of stones and foreign objects For driver safety, always use a tractor equipped with a cab.

Before driving onto a main road, employ a person to give the driver indications to manoeuvre safely: - When leaving the farm.

    Disc mower GMD702F $Instructions for work 1. Putting the machine into work position From the transport position: - Lower the tractor's lift linkage to tension the check chains. - Position transport lock lever in working position (1 on each machine side).
  • Page 41 Disc mower GMD702F - Hook tensionsers (1) to suspension spring mounting brackets. - Make sure all the guards are in place. Immediately replace any worn or damaged guard. - Activate machine lift cylinders to rest the machine on the ground.

    Disc mower GMD702F 2. Adjustments in working position  Cutting height The desired cutting height is obtained directly by adjusting the top link length. The height can be adjusted between 30 and 80 mm (1.1’’ - 3.1’’) depending on the tractors.
  • Page 43 Disc mower GMD702F The maximum cutting height (L1 = 80 mm (3.1’’)) is obtained when the discs are parallel to the ground. The minimum cutting height must not be below (L2 = 30 mm (1.1’’)). Too low a cutting height can lead to: - Excessive disc and knife wear.
  • Page 44 Disc mower GMD702F  Reduced or increased ground pressure The mowing unit is suspended by means of floatation springs (1). In difficult working conditions, the suspension spring setting can be altered. - Place the machine in transport position. - Loosen counter nut (2).

    Disc mower GMD702F 2. Lubrication Except for the secondary PTO shaft lubrication, the machine must be placed in transport position for all maintenance operations (knife replacement, lubrication, etc). Clean grease nipples before greasing. Lubricate with SHELL multi-purpose grease grade NLGI 2.

The cutterbar is lubricated with 2 L (0.52 US gal) of extreme-pressure gear oil with viscosity grade SHELL SPIRAX A and SAE 80W90 grade API.

The angle gearbox is lubricated with 0.7 L (0.18 US gal) of SHELL SPIRAX A extreme-pressure oil for mechanical transmissions with viscosity grade SAE 80W90 and API grade GL5.
  • Page 55 Disc mower GMD702F  Central gearbox draining Before draining oil, operate the machine for a few minutes so that the oil warms up. The main gearbox is lubricated with SHELL SPIRAX A extreme-pressure gear oil with viscosity grade SAE 80W90 and API grade GL5.

Maintenance Before carrying out any maintenance or repairs on the machine, switch off the tractor engine, remove ignition key, wait until all moving parts have come to a standstill and apply park brake.  Belts - Regularly check belt tension and in particular during the first hours of use: - Remove cover (1).

Check the pressure: - Place the machine in working position. - Shift the mowing unit lift cylinder directional control valve in float position.
