Microphone Board Installation This chapter contains hardware installation instructions for the MC-8 Microphone Board. Complete the hardware upgrade before installing the software. Software features are not available unless the required hardware is installed. See “Software Installation” on page 2-1 for software installation instructions.
New hardware must be installed BEFORE new software is installed. Quantity WARNING Never make or break connections to the MC-8 unless it and all associated components are powered off. Disconnect all power from the MC-8 before installing the new hardware.

2. Disconnect the MC-8 from the electrical outlet and all associated components. 3. Place the MC-8 upright on a flat, level surface such as a table or workbench. Do not place the MC-8 on a surface that is unstable or unable to support all four of its feet.

Push the ribbon cable and wires at the front of the unit against the inside front panel so the board clears them.

DB-9 RS-232 connector (9-pin) MAKING CONNECTIONS If the computer has only a USB connector, a USB-to-serial port adapter is required to make the connection to the MC-8. It is not required if the computer has an RS-232 connector. Quantity Certain USB-to-serial port adapters have been reported to be incompatible with the upgrade kit.
Hardware & Software Upgrade Instructions Installing the Upgrade Program on your PC Before you can upgrade the MC-8, the upgrade software must be installed on your personal computer. To install the upgrade program on your computer: 1.

To upgrade the MC-8: Note: It takes about 45 minutes to upgrade the MC-8. Do not use the MC-8 while the upgrade is in progress. 1. Exit all computer programs. 2. Power off the MC-8 with the rear panel power switch.
