Anti-scalping roller/side skids
The main purpose of the anti-scalping roller is to prevent damage to the mower. If a
wheel drops into a hole, or there is uneven ground between the wheels, the roller takes
the weight of the mower, avoiding the knives scalping the ground. Combined with the
side skids the mower provides good protection to the rotor. The anti-scalping roller has
the added advantage of enabling curb side grass to be cut with no difficulty by allow-
ing the wheel to hang over the curb edge. The factory pre-set position of the anti-
scalping roller and side skids is suitable for most situations. However, if the mover is
used in rough conditions or regularly in heavy crops, the roller and side skids should
be lowered to increase the clearance between the flails and the ground when the roller
comes into use. In circumstances where the mower is being used as a finishing mower
and a striped appearance is desired, the roller can be set down using the various hole
positions to give the required cutting height. Then the wheels can be lifted off the
ground.
Adjusting the anti-scalping roller:
1. Slacken the pivot bolt.
2. Slacken and remove the lower bolt.
3. Repeat to the other end of the roller.
4. Select another hole and replace the lower bolt. Tighten both bolts.
Adjusting the side skids:
1. Remove the bolt at the front of the skid and the rear of the skid.
2. Select new holes, replace the bolts and tighten.
3. Repeat to the opposite skid.
4. Always ensure that both skids are adjusted.

MAINTENANCE

Proper servicing and adjustments are the key to the long life of any machine. With
careful and systematic inspection, you can avoid costly maintenance, time and repair.
NOTE! For safety reasons, each maintenance operation must be performed with the
mower engine shut off, mower lowered completely to ground and ATV engine shut off
with ignition key removed. Let all the parts cool down before performing maintenance
operations.
