go over twice with machine set lower on second pass. Leave at least 24 hours be-
tween first and second cut to allow grass to dry out.
2. Increase operating speed until the rpm of the engine starts to slow down (this is
working the engine too hard for conditions). Slow down, let the engine to regain full
rpm and go through the same process but stop short of speed which made the en-
gine overload previously. It is important always to listen to the note of the engine to
ensure that the engine and mower are working efficiently. Slow down or stop once
the engine starts to overload.
WARNING! Failure to follow the instructions above will result in the clutch slip and
ultimately severe damage to the clutch and drive belts.
NOTE! When moving from normal working conditions to heavier cutting, it may be evi-
dent that the engine dies down and loses revs. Slow down immediately to allow the
engine revs to build up again to normal working speed. Follow the instructions above.
Expected operating speed will be much lower in heavy conditions.
Stopping the mower
When stopping the mower after a period of heavy use, run the engine at half working
speed in a stationary position, for at least 4 minutes, to allow the drive belts to cool
down.
1. Show caution to hot parts e.g. the engine exhaust, belts etc. after the engine is
turned off.
2. Ensure the mower drawbar has been adjusted to allow the mower to run directly
behind the towing vehicle and is not in an offset position.
3. When the mower has cooled down for at least one hour after last used, ensure all
grass has been removed from the engine cooling fins, drive belt area and rotors be-
fore operating again.
Transporting
When the mower is being moved from one site to another it is advisable to raise it to
the highest position (see section 'cutting height adjustment'). The engine must be
stopped and the knives at a standstill before adjusting to the transport position.
Remove any crop debris from the mower before leaving the field. Never move from one
site to another with the engine running.
NOTE! This flail mower is not road legal and should not be used on public roadways.
1. Be sure to reduce ATV ground speed when turning, leaving enough clearance so
that the mower does not contact obstacles such as buildings, trees or fences.
2. Select a safe ground travel speed when transporting from one area to another.
3. When traveling over rough or hilly terrain, shift ATV to a lower gear.
Preparation of the area to be mowed
1. Clear area to be mowed of objects and debris that might be picked up and thrown
by the mower knives.
2. Grass is best cut when it is dry. Mowing wet grass can cause plugging resulting in
grass clumps behind the mower.
3. Grass should be mowed frequently as shorter clippings deteriorate faster.
4. If mowing extremely tall grass, it is best to raise cutting height and mow the area,
then lower cutting height and mow a second time at the desired height.
