4.2 Example Outdoor Enclosure
Figure 17 provides an example of an outdoor enclosure design that incorporates design
recommendations made in this document. The sensor platen area is shielded from direct
exposure to sunlight when the enclosure is mounted on a vertical wall. The depth of the
sensor platen surface with respect to the enclosure outer surface is shallow to allow easy
finger contact with the platen area and is angled downward for placements above waist
height. The shallow depression and the downward angle also facilitate drainage when the
enclosure is exposed to precipitation or cleaned with a water spray.

4.3 Design Goals
The goal of an outdoor enclosure design is to extend the operating range of all its contents
so that system-level environmental requirements are met and to ensure that the enclosure
can be reliably manufactured to do so.
