Need help?
Do you have a question about the G4-7 and is the answer not in the manual?
Questions and answers
I have a Atwood 10 gal water heater Model G10-3E. The burner sometimes doesn't want to light, not sure if it would be the gas valve or the circuit board? At times I will see a small flame in the burn chamber and then a little flame at the air vent, Could you please guide me as to my problem and maybe how to troubleshoot it. Not sure what roll the circuit board and the gas valve do?
When the burner does not light and there is a small flame in the burn chamber on an Atwood G10-3E water heater, follow these troubleshooting steps:
1. Check for gas line issues: Look for oil or moisture buildup in the gas line, which can block or restrict gas flow. Moisture can freeze and partially block the line. Make sure gas pressure is consistent to all appliances.
2. Inspect the gas regulator: Verify that the regulator is providing steady pressure. Intermittent pressure can cause ignition problems.
3. Check the main burner flame: It should be mostly blue with a small amount of yellow and burn quietly. If not:
- Adjust gas pressure to 11˝ W.C.
- Ensure the air shutter on the burner is 1/4 open.
- Confirm the flame spreader is square to the end of the burner.
4. Verify burner alignment: Ensure the manifold and burner tube are aligned. Rotate the gas valve and/or orifice holder so gas flows down the center of the burner tube.
5. Inspect the circuit board: Only check the circuit board after other steps. Make sure it is clean and dry before considering replacement.
Most ignition issues can be resolved by cleaning components or adjusting settings without replacing the circuit board.
