PLANT SPACING CONTROL
Operator Manual
 1. INTRODUCTION
The PSC (Plant Spacing Control) hydraulic drive offers automatic digital control of manual and
automatic Ferrari transplanters, making adjustment of the distance versatile and immediate. There
are several advantages in using the PSC.
With the PSC you can set and accurately obtain the distance on the row of plants, and also monitor
the machine's work through the numerous parameters displayed.
Using the operator panel with LCD screen you can set the distance in a range from 1 to 99.9
centimetres (with a resolution of 1 millimetre), display in real time the travel speed, the speed in
plants/hour and plants/hectare.
There is also a historical data log: number of total and partial working hours, number of total and
partial hectares worked and number of total and partial plants transplanted. All partial data can be
reset singularly.
During testing, you can simulate the machine's travel speed to check that the device works
properly with the special "Simulation" mode.
You can also constantly monitor the supply voltage on the operator panel to ensure correct
operation of the system.

  • Page 6 NOTE: CHOOSE WHICH SIMULATION TO USE During simulation with feedback, the movement speed of the transplanting bodies is controlled by the rotary encoder that detects the speed of the transmission shaft. This simulation can be useful for observing the movement mode and speed of the transplanting bodies at different travel speeds. It can also be useful for diagnosing any faults in the rotary encoder of the transmission shaft (or its wiring): if the signal is not detected correctly, the system does not control the speed correctly.

This parameter is calculated with the following formula: The “transmission ratio”...
  • Page 8 On the other hand, a less reactive control results in less precision over distance control, especially with any variations in speed. It is advisable to change the parameter only after receiving instructions from Ferrari Costruzioni Meccaniche technical staff.
  • Page 9  Granulator applicator proportional output activation (Micro PWM) The PSC device provides a few auxiliary OUTPUTS. The "Micro PWM” output provides a PWM signal with duty cycle proportional to the travel speed, which is useful, for example, for increasing fertiliser dosage when the speed increases. This output is enabled by selecting <ON> on the "Micro PWM”...

  • Page 11  “PSC Slaves” board selection (PSC Slaves) This setting is used if you want to add one or two additional boards to the main PSC hydraulic drive for transplanters with more than one independent transmission shaft. If you have one or more additional boards connected select “Yes”, otherwise select “No”.

3.4 OPTIONAL OUTPUTS:  “ON-OFF MICRO” OUTPUT: The PSC "ON-OFF MICRO” output (see 4.WIRING DIAGRAM) is activated when the machine is in motion and deactivated when the machine is stationary. It can therefore be used to connect to a user (for example a granulator applicator) with the aim of optimising product supply.
