5.2 - Start-Up & Operating Procedures (continued)
2. Pre-Operation Steps:
Choose a location where installation will provide suitable proximity to the are to be ventilated yet minimize obstructions.
Pay close attention the location of power cords and ducting at this stage. One a location is chosen;
a. Ventilation Duct Deployment
Tents: If the unit is to be used for the climate control of a tent or similar shelter, place the unit on the side of the tent
where the ventilation inlet sleeves are located, Attach a ventilation hose to the outlet (lower) ring on the front face of
the AC unit and slide the hose through the tent sleeve and secure in place. For maximum cooling it is advantageous to
have the cool air discharge hose located at a "high Point" within the shelter.
Confined Spaces: If the until is to be used for the ventilation of a confined space (i.e. manhole vault), place the air
conditioner unit on a stable surface "upwind" of the confined space entry point. This is done to ensure that hazardous
gases expelled from the confined space are not drawn into and re circulated through the air conditioner. Maximum cool-
ing and ventilation benefit will be attained if the hose outlet end is placed as low as possible within the confined space.
b. Intake Hose Deployment:
Depending on the application, the optional Intake Hose Adapter (PELAIR1530-R) may or may not be used. When the air
conditioner is to be utilized for ventilation of confined spaces or hazardous environments (decontamination) a constant
supply of fresh air is required. DO NOT uSE RE-CIRCuLATED AIR. For general cooling, using re-circulated air will
maximize the cooling effect of the unit. Attach the inlet hose adapter to the intake grille by placing the hose adapter lip
over the top edge of the intake grille and then securing the adapter bottom to the inlet grill utilizing the two draw latches
on the adapter plate. Place the intake hose end with the buckle over the adapter ring and cinch the strap around the
inlet ring. The free end of the intake hose can then be placed in the shelter, preferably at ground level and away from
the cool air discharge hose.
** When cooling a tent or shelter placing the cool air discharge hose at a high point and the warm air return hose at a
low point, as well placing two hoses at opposite ends of the shelter will help to achieve the best circulation and exchange
of warm to cold air.
c. Ensure that the air conditioner unit is level prior to operation. If the unit was tipped over or angled more than 45
degrees in transit, let stand in an upright position for at least 30 minutes prior to operating. NEVER OPERATE THE
AIR CONDITIONER IF STANDING AT MORE THAN A 7° ANGLE (12% GRADE) for any reason, damage may result
due to a lack of lubrication of the internal components. NOTE: Failure to comply will cause permanent damage to
the unit and will void any warranty.
d. Ensure that there are no blockages at the air conditioner's inlet or outlet. The inlet evaporative coil is protected by a
12"square filter. The condenser coil is also protected by a 16" x 25" filter. Only use a standard fiberglass loose mat
filter. Check to make sure that the filters are clean and free of debris. A clogged filter will affect the volume of air and
efficiency of cooling the air. The inlet and outlet should not be blocked at any time during operation.
e. Ensure that the unit is "powered off" via its onboard switch prior to supplying any input voltage to the unit.
f. Ensure that the power cord is in good condition and securely attached to a 20 amp-rated and breaker-protected
120VAC GROUNDED receptacle.
