3.3 PPPoE

3.3.1 Overview

PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) is a specification for connecting multiple computer users on an Ethernet
local area network to a remote site through common customer premises equipment, which is the
telephone company's term for a modem and similar devices. PPPoE can be used to have an office or
building-full of users share ADSL, cable modem, or wireless connection to the Internet. Usually, it is
used in broadband Internet access such as ADSL.
To make the NEMO10 work in PPPoE mode, users should have a PPPoE account and the
equipments for PPPoE access such as an ADSL modem. Since the NEMO10 provides the PPPoE
protocol, it can access the remote host on the Internet over ADSL connection. It is required to set up
the user name and password of the PPPoE account.
If the IP mode is set to PPPoE, The NEMO10 negotiates the PPPoE connection with PPPoE server
whenever it boots up. During the negotiation, it receives the information required for Internet
connection such as IP address, gateway, subnet mask and DNS servers. If the connection is
established, the NEMO10 tries to maintain the connection as long as possible. If the disconnection is
detected, the NEMO10 will attempt to make a new PPPoE connection by requesting the new
connection.
