This instruction sheet provides you with the information required to
safely own and operate your product. Retain these instructions for
future reference.
The product you have purchased is of the highest quality
workmanship and material, and has been engineered to give you
long and reliable service. This product has been carefully tested,
inspected, and packaged to ensure safe delivery and operation.
Please examine your item(s) carefully to ensure that no damage
occurred during shipment. If damage has occurred, please contact
the place of purchase. They will assist you in replacement or repair,
if required.

SAFETY GUIDELINES
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK: This pump is supplied with a
grounding conductor and grounding-type attachment plug. To
reduce the risk of electric shock, be certain that it is connected
only to a properly grounded, grounding-type receptacle.
Your pump is equipped with a 3-prong electrical plug. The third
prong grounds the pump to prevent possible electrical shock
hazard. Do not remove the third prong from the plug. A separate
branch circuit is recommended. Do not use an extension cord.
When a pump is in a basin, etc., do not touch motor, pipes or water
until unit is unplugged or shut off. If shut-off box is not accessible,
call the electric company to shut off service to the house, or call
your local fire department for instructions. Failure to follow this
warning can result in fatal electrical shock.
Do not modify the power cord except to shorten it to fit into a control
panel. Any splice between the pump and the control panel must be
made within a junction box and mounted outside of the basin, and
comply with the National Electrical Code. Do not use the power
cord for lifting the pump.
The pump motor is equipped with an automatic resetting thermal
protector and may restart unexpectedly. Protector-tripping is an
indication of motor overloading as a result of excessively high or
low voltage, inadequate wiring, incorrect motor connections, or a
defective motor or pump.
1. Read all instructions and Safety Guidelines thoroughly. Failure
to follow the guidelines and instructions could result in serious
bodily injury and/or property damage.
2. DO NOT USE TO PUMP FLAMMABLE OR EXPLOSIVE FLUIDS
SUCH AS GASOLINE, FUEL OIL, KEROSENE, ETC. DO NOT USE
IN EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES OR HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS
AS CLASSIFIED BY NEC, ANSI/NFPA70. FAILURE TO FOLLOW
THIS WARNING CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR
PROPERTY DAMAGE.

WARNING
3. During normal operation the sump pump is immersed in
water. Also, during rain storms, water may be present in the
surrounding area of the pump. Use caution to prevent bodily
injury when working near the pump:
a. Remove the plug from the receptacle before touching,
servicing, or repairing the pump.
b. To minimize possible fatal electrical shock hazard, use extreme
care when changing fuses. Do not stand in water while

changing fuses or insert your finger into the fuse socket.

4. Do not operate the pump in a dry basin. This will cause the
pump to become extremely hot, causing burns if touched and/or

5. Do not oil the motor. The pump housing is sealed.

6. In any installations where property damage and/or personal
injury might result from an inoperative or leaking pump due to
power outages, discharge line blockage, or any other reason, a
backup system(s) and/or alarm should be used.
WARNING: Before connecting the pump to the power source, verify
that the power source is of the same voltage and frequency listed
on the pump.
CAUTION: Do not restrict the intake side of the pump, as this may
starve the pump and cause damage to the seal. If you require
reduced flow rates, place a valve on the discharge side of the pump
or, if flexible vinyl discharge tubing is used, a clamp on the tubing.
CAUTION: This pump is designed to pump water only. Suitability
with other liquids is the responsibility of the end user.
1. Ensure that the maximum temperature of the water will
not exceed 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) in
continuous operation.
2. If the bottom of the pond is sandy or muddy, suspend the
pump from a rope or chain, or place it on a suitable base to
prevent its intake from clogging. Pumping sand and other
abrasive materials will reduce the life of the pump.
3. Remove the air from the pump by sinking the pump with its
discharge facing up. This will facilitate priming.
4. Complete the discharge connections.
5. Check the power cord and electrical receptacle to ensure that
they have not been tampered with or damaged.
6. Start the pump by plugging it into a properly grounded,
grounding–type receptacle. There is no on/off switch.
7. Check to ensure that the pump operates properly. If it does
not, unplug it and refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING section to
determine the problem.
8. Ensure that the pump does not run dry. This will damage the
pump and void the warranty.
