IMPORTANT: Turn off the gas before servicing the appliance.
Although the frequency of servicing and maintenance will depend on use
and the type of installation, you should have a qualified service technician
perform an appliance checkup at the beginning of each heating season.
Specific guidelines regarding each appliance maintenance task are listed
below.
NOTICE
It is normal for steel appliances to make expansion and/or contraction
noise during the start-up or cool-down cycle. Similar noises are found
with your furnace heat exchanger or car engine. It is normal for your gas
fireplace insert to give off some odor the first time it is burned. This is due
to the curing of the paint and any oil from the manufacturing process. If
odor becomes offensive, open windows.
Barrier Screen Removal
NOTICE: Do not handle barrier screen or door assembly with your
bare hands! (Always Wear Gloves)
1.
Press inward and upward at the top of the barrier frame.
2.
Lift the barrier screen assembly up approximately 3/8 inch until the
bottom bracket is free from the bottom of the glass door frame.
3.
Swing the bottom of the barrier toward you until the barrier can be
removed from the top opening (the space between the surround and
insert top).
General Glass Information
Do not operate appliance with the glass front removed,
cracked or broken. Replacement of the glass should be done
by a licensed or qualified service person.
Only glass approved for use by the manufacturer in fireplace may be used
for replacement. The glass replacement should be done by a licensed or
qualified service person.

The use of substitute glass will void all product warranties.
2.
Avoid breaking the glass.
3.
Do not operate this appliance without the glass front
or with a broken glass front. Have a qualified service
person replace damaged glass and gasket using materials
specified by Empire Comfort Systems.
4.
Do not abuse or strike the glass.
Do not use Ammonia based or abrasive cleaners on glass.
Do not attempt to clean glass when glass is hot.
Cleaning Glass Door
Frequency: After the first 3 to 4 hours of use. As necessary after initial
cleaning.
By: Home owner.
Task: Remove and clean glass after the first 3 to 4 hours of use. After the
initial cleaning, clean as necessary. Film deposits on the inside of the glass
door should be cleaned off using a household glass cleaner.
Do not handle or attempt to clean the door when it is hot
and Do not use abrasive cleaners.
Glass Door Removal
1.
Remove the barrier screen. Press in and up at the top of the barrier
frame. Lift the barrier screen assembly up approximately 3/8 inch
until the bottom bracket is free from the bottom of the glass door
frame. Swing the bottom of the barrier toward you until the barrier can
be removed from the top opening, which is the space between the
surround and insert top.

Locate the bottom two glass frame spring clamps. Pull forward and
down to release them from the Glass Door frame.
3.
Remove the Glass Door by pulling the bottom of the door outward
several inches, then lift upwards to disengage it from the firebox upper
flange.
5.
Do not abuse the glass by striking or hitting the glass.
6.
Verify proper operation after servicing.
Glass Door Installation
NOTICE: Do not handle barrier screen or door assembly with your
bare hands! (Always Wear Gloves)
1.
When installing the Glass Door assembly, make sure that the door
top flange is hooked over the firebox top flange as illustrated in the
"Correct" view in Figure 34.
Important: Do not allow the gasket across the top of the door to
roll up on top of the firebox flange as shown in "Incorrect" view
in Figure 34.
2.
To install correctly, the door should be held at an angle outward from
the firebox as shown in the illustration, then carefully engage the upper
flange of the door frame with the top flange of the firebox. Center the
door left to right, then allow the bottom of the door to swing inward to
seal against the firebox front.
3.
Once the glass door is placed flat to the firebox front edges, engage
the two spring latches to the bottom flange on the glass door frame to
secure the door assembly.
4.
Replace barrier screen.
Cleaning Burner and Controls
Frequency: Once annually.
By: Qualified service technician.
Task: Brush or vacuum the control compartment, fireplace logs and burner
areas surrounding the logs.
Checking Flame Patterns, Flame Height
Frequency: Periodically.
By: Qualified service technician/Home owner.
Task: Make a visual check of your fireplace insert's flame patterns.
Make sure the flames are steady - not lifting or floating. The thermopile/
thermocouple (standing pilot) tips should be covered with flame. See Figure 30.
Checking Vent System
Frequency: Before initial use and at least annually thereafter, more
frequently if possible.
By: Qualified service technician/Home owner.
Task: Inspect the external vent cap on a regular basis to ensure that no debris
is interfering with the flow of air. Inspect entire vent system for proper function.
Cleaning Logs
Use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust or
soot deposits from logs and burner.
