Dolby Pro Logic, Super Surround, Center Focus,
Seat Position and Subwoofer Level adjusting (A page 30) cannot be
used if headphones are connected ("ERROR" appears on the display).
You may experience a reduction in sound quality when these sound
field systems are used with some sources. If this occurs, turn the
sound field system off.
Dolby Digital and DTS
Dolby Digital and DTS are digital encoding systems used on DVD to
carry surround sound. Both were originally developed for use in
cinemas.
This unit automatically recognizes and decodes these systems.
Software encoded with Dolby
Digital can be identified with
this mark.
Play a Dolby Digital or DTS source.
The Dolby Digital or DTS indicator
lights.

that cannot be down-mixed.
Dolby Pro Logic

Dolby Pro Logic is an active process that enhances sound localiza-
tion through the use of a high separation decoding method providing
improved spatiality and a wider listening area. The sense of direc-
tionality is enhanced by the Left, Center, Right and Surround chan-
nels. Dolby Pro Logic is best utilized with sources encoded in Dolby
Surround.
Software encoded with Dolby Surround can be identified with this
mark (DVD, CD, Video CD, Laser Disc, Video tape).

This does not work when playing multi-channel Dolby Digital.

Speaker level adjustments

Adjust the level of the speakers so they are the same apparent level
as the front speakers where you would normally be sitting and lis-
tening. (L, R A page 29, "Balance")
Preparation
Press [-/J DVD/CD]. (remote control: [- DVD/CD])

Press [SHIFT]+[TEST] to output a test signal.
Lch: Front left
Cch: Center
Rch: Front right
RSch: Right surround
LSch: Left surround

[VOLUME +] or [–]) to set the volume level normally
used for listening.

Press [8] (to increase) or [9] (to decrease).
C, RS, LS:
To stop the test signal, press [SHIFT]+[TEST] again.

SWch: Subwoofer
You can only adjust SWch if the disc includes a subwoofer
channel.
SWch does not appear on the display and is not adjustable
when Dolby Pro Logic is turned on.
