Trouble Shooting Guide

Problem
Coffee runs down the side
of the filter holder
No coffee runs through.
Coffee filters out in drops.
Espresso does not have
any Crema.
Handle comes off
during brewing.
Possible cause
Filter holder is not inserted
correctly.
Edge of filter insert is not free
of coffee granules.
The brewing head is dirty.
The brewing head is defective.
Brew head rubber seal is damaged Contact a Sunbeam Service Centre.
No water in the water reservoir.
Water reservoir not correctly
assembled.
Selector set to
setting.
Brewing filter may be blocked.
The filter is blocked, the coffee
grounds are too fine or
tamped down too hard.
Coffee grounds are too fine or
are too compacted.
Machine blocked by scale
build up.
Coffee is old or dry.
Coffee not compacted
firmly enough.
Coffee too coarse.
Coffee tamped too hard.
Coffee grind is too fine.
What to do
See "Preparing an espresso"
pg 13.
Clean around the edge of the
filter and wipe the brewing head
clean of coffee.
Wipe brewing head with a
damp cloth.
Contact a Sunbeam Service Centre.
Fill reservoir with water.
Press firmly down on the
water reservoir.
Ensure the selector is in the
position.
See "Descaling the espresso
machine" pg 17.
Empty out the filter and rinse
under water to clean. Wipe
the brewing head with a cloth.
Repack the filter and tamp
down coffee lightly with compactor.
Ensure you are using an evenly
ground coffee and do not compact
the grounds so firmly.

Use fresh coffee and once you
open the coffee be sure to
store it in an airtight container.
Compact coffee grounds more
firmly.
Grind the coffee to a finer texture
or change brands of espresso
coffee to a finer grind.
Tamp the coffee grinds lighter.
Change to a coarser grind of coffee.
