Introduction Thank you for choosing the ClearText textphone. ClearText has been designed to be the extremely easy to use. Most of its functions can be activated by a push of the button. The remainder can be found in its simple on-screen menu. We hope you enjoy using your ClearText.
Getting started When unpacking the ClearText, you should find the following in the box: A ClearText textphone, a telephone line cord, mains plug, and a user guide. Back of ClearText Tel Line Power Installing the product Open the battery cover underneath the textphone. Insert batteries (AA1.5V LR6 x4), and replace battery cover, making sure they have been inserted the right way round.
Quick guides Making a call Dial the phone number using the digit keys; the numbers will be displayed on the screen. Press the Dial key. The number will be dialled automatically. Wait until ‘Connected’ message is displayed. Once connected you will be able to type your conversation on the keyboard.
Getting to know your ClearText Screen display The screen is divided into three sections; main area, comments area and status area. Main area Comments Status area area The main area is for displaying the conversation during a call, and also the menu options. The comment area displays text to help guide you through all the textphone functions.
Screen icons All the icons below are displayed in the ‘Status Area’ in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. One or more messages have been received. The batteries are fully charged (or similar). The batteries are flat, they will need to be replaced with new batteries to retain numbers in the phonebook and messages.
Menu Navigation Your ClearText has an easy to use menu system. Each menu has a list of options, which you can see on the menu map on the next page. When the ClearText is switched on and is idle: Select Press the key to open the main menu.

Main menu In the main menu you are able to access your messages, the options menu and the phonebook. Options menu In the options menu you are able to change the text size, the Text Relay settings and greeting settings. To get to the options screen simply Select choose Options from the main menu and press the key.

Text Size Selection In the Options menu use the keys to get to the Text Size Select submenu. Press the key. Then use the keys to increase or decrease the font Select size. Press the key when you have found the size you want.
Auto Greeting When this option is selected, the textphone will transmit ‘Hello’ to the other party once connection is established. Auto Greeting can be switched on or off inside the Options menu. In the Options’ menu use the keys to get to the Auto Select Greeting submenu.
Phonebook Names and phone numbers can be stored in the textphone’s phonebook. If you have subscribed to a Caller Display service (see page 18) and if the caller’s name and number have been stored in the phonebook, the name of the caller will be displayed alongside their number when a call is received.

Dial a Phonebook Entry key or navigate to Phonebook in the Press the options menu. Use the keys to select the name you wish to dial. Press Select key. Press the Dial key. Edit a Phonebook Entry key or navigate to Phonebook in the Press the options menu.

Delete a Phonebook Entry key or navigate to Phonebook in the Press the options menu. Use the keys to select Add, Edit, Delete Entry. Select Press the key. Select keys to select Delete Entry. Press Use the Use the keys to select the name you want to delete. Select Press the key.
Ringer and Alert Settings Ringer volume A switch on the back of the product labelled ‘RINGER’ allows the ringer to be switched High, Low or Off. Strobe flasher A switch on the back of the product labelled ‘STROBE’ allows you to switch the incoming call flasher On or Off.
Answerphone If you are not available to answer a call, the textphone can receive and save a message. The answerphone will be activated if a call is not answered within 8 rings (24 seconds). When someone leaves a message on your answerphone, the new message indicator will flash and the New Message count seen in standby mode will increase by one.

Select Press the key to go to the Menu Screen. keys to select the Messages submenu. Press Use the Select key.. If you have some messages you should see a screen like this: Message are displayed with most recent at the top of the list. The symbol ‘!’...
Missed calls Caller display The missed calls features described in this section are only available if you subscribe to a Caller Display service from your network provider (BT, Sky, Virgin, etc). Caller Display means you can see the number of the person calling you on the screen (provided the number is not withheld, unavailable or is an international call).

Calling, Storing and deleting Missed Calls. If you have a new missed call it will be indicated by the message light turning on and ‘New Call’ appearing on the screen. This is the number of missed calls you have. Select Press the key to go to the Menu Screen.

Use the keys to select the missed call you want to check. Select Press the key. The details of the missed call are displayed: Reference number Date of call New call Time of call Name and number of call (if you have caller display) Note: If the caller has exercised the option to prevent their number from being displayed, Private Number will be shown on the screen.
Memory keys The top row of keys on the keyboard numbered have two uses; In the standby menu the keys can used to dial a phone number. During a call these keys can be used to automatically bring up popular words and phrases.
Trouble Shooting No display: • Make sure that the power adaptor is plugged in correctly and is not damaged • Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly and fully charged. ClearText does not ring: • Make sure that the telephone line cord is plugged in correctly and is not damaged. • Connect another telephone to the telephone socket or move your telephone to another socket to determine if the failure is coming from your telephone or your telephone socket. • There may be too many communication devices connected to a single telephone line e.g.
