    Instruction Manual 4 Lifting instructions 4.1 Who is allowed to lift cylinders Only qualified personnel shall lift cylinders. 4.2 Personal protection Use the normal appropriate personal protection when lifting cylinders: 4.3 General lifting procedure Lifting gear Use appropriate and certified lifting slings for lifting cylinders.     Instruction Manual 4.4 Lifting eyes for lifting cylinders Most of the bigger cylinders made by Eaton Industries have special hoisting eyes mounted at the cylinder itself. Always use these eyes when lifting cylinders. If it isn’t possible to use the hoisting eyes when mounting the cylinder in its construction, use the normal procedure of lifting heavy loads.

    The below mentioned storage and maintenance activities need to be executed and recorded properly in the inspection & maintenance log (document FOR- 004 – Maintenance & Inspection Log see appendix A) in order to benefit Eaton warranty policy. For some specific application or circumstances additional instructions can be defined and communicated by Eaton.

    The cylinders should be disassembled, cleaned, seal replacement and testing before installation / commissioning. Disassembly of cylinders MUST be done by qualified Eaton personnel. Every single part should sealed, greased, oiled or waxed to prevent rust, damage or any other type of threat.

    Instruction Manual 6 Installation manual 6.1 Personal protection 6.2 How to remove protection material Before unpacking the cylinder check the warning labels that are attached to the cylinder and read the instruction that are written on the labels. Before and during unpacking the cylinder check if there are any damaged parts of the cylinder occurred during transportation.

    When using the wrong type of oil, seals of the cylinder can be damaged, this can result in a leaking cylinder. Only qualified personnel or Eaton personnel should fill with oil, or release air from the cylinder. How to release air from the cylinder Before releasing air from the cylinder, make sure the cylinder is not pressurized in any circumstances.

    Instruction Manual Proximity switch Like mechanical end-switches, proximity switches have no difficulties in usage. It’s a sensor that checks for a ring or higher part on the piston rod. When such a ring or part of the piston rod has been reported, the sensor sends a signal to stop the cylinder from extending or retracting.

    8.3 Oil maintenance Changing oil and oil filters can be done by personnel who are certified in changing oil of hydraulic systems. Otherwise it can be done by Eaton personnel. Take an oil sample twice a year and check the cleanliness and percentage of water in the oil (according EN 12937).
