Too much friction shortens the casting distance, too little leaves overrun and backlash unchecked. Turn the cast control knob clockwise to increase friction, counter-clockwise to decrease friction.

  • Page 18 SETTING THE 4 X 8 DIGITAL CONTROL BRAKING SYSTEM • Digital Control Brake Dial This allows 8 levels of brake settings for each of the 4 Modes. Brake force increases from MIN to MAX. We recommend using the MAX brake setting when you use the reel for the first time, and then adjust accordingly once you become comfortable with the reel.

This brake mode is designed to prevent over runs by reducing spool rotation immediately after cast and then continuing to add tension after the middle stage of the cast.

Braking power will be reduced if the height of the line is above this level, and increased if below.

    OILING INSTRUCTIONS The two spool bearings adopted for use in the CALAIS DC are filled with an oil supplied for exclusive use with your reel, not packed with grease as is typical with other reels. These low- torque, high-speed bearings are the reason for the extraordinarily smooth spool rotation of your CALAIS DC reel.

    PRECAUTIONS FOR USE Sand, mud and Saltwater are your reel's greatest enemies. Take care not to let the reel come in direct contact with sandy soil or to avoid submerging the reel in saltwater during use. Allowing sand or heavy amounts of Saltwater to get into the reel may cause unanticipated mechanical trouble.

    CARE AND MAINTENANCE Remove debris, sand and salt residue from all parts of the reel by wiping clean with a soft cloth soaked in freshwater. Allow to dry completely. Do not attempt to clean by soaking in water, using a high pressure stream of water, or splashing with hot water.
