19 Troubleshooting

19.1 Troubleshooting Trimmer

Most malfunctions have the same causes.
► Perform the following operations:
► Clean the air filter.
► Clean or replace the spark plug.
► Carry out the standard setting.
► Adjust idle speed.
► Adjust carburetor for operation at high altitude.
► If the malfunction still exists: Take the action described in the following table.
Condition
Engine does not start.
Engine idles erratically.
Engine stops while idling
Cutting attachment does
not rotate properly or
rotates erratically.

Cause
Insufficient fuel in the tank. ► Prepare fuel mix and refuel the trimmer.
Engine is flooded.
Carburetor is too hot.
Carburetor is iced up.
Carburetor is iced up.
Carburetor is iced up.
Connection between
flexible shaft and
powerhead or drive tube is
worn.
Remedy
► Clear the combustion chamber.
► Allow trimmer to cool down.
► Before starting the engine: Depress the manual fuel pump bulb at
least ten times.
► Allow trimmer to warm up to +10°C.
► Allow trimmer to warm up to +10°C.
► Allow trimmer to warm up to +10°C.
► Contact your STIHL servicing dealer for assistance.
