L1810 User’s Manual SAFETY Safety 1.1.1 General The manufacturer has no direct control over the machine operation and application. Proper safety practice is the sole responsibility of the owner, user, and operator. All instructions and safety warnings in this manual are based upon the use of this machine under proper operating conditions without alterations from the original design.
  • Page 9: Safety Symbols On The Machine

L1810 User’s Manual 1.1.3 Safety symbols on the machine Safety labels are used on some parts of the machine. They are explained below. Caution Servicing instructions are for use by qualified service personnel only. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not perform any servicing other than that contained in the operating instructions unless you are qualified to do so.
  • Page 10: Safety Precautions

The laser emits invisible class 4 laser radiation; avoid skin exposure to direct or scattered laser light and do not look into the laser beam. Wear laser safety goggles. Any person or organization performing any modification to the L1810 laser cutting system is responsible for ensuring the reclassification and relabeling of the laser product.

  • Page 25: Extraction System

L1810 User’s Manual 2.1.6 Extraction System General Description The centrifugal fan extraction system uses bypass cooling (ambient air cools the motor rather than the exhaust fumes), extracting and filtring the cutting fumes from around the cutting area. The fumes are drawn across the laser cutter bed into the two 150mm bore diameter flexible hoses beneath the machine, before being extracted through a 150mm bore diameter flexible hose.
  • Page 26: Reeler

L1810 User’s Manual De-Reeler 2.2.1 General Description Printed roll material is presented to the conveyor, using a motorised roll handling system. As the roll unwinds, a loop is created in the material. This loop is kept constant with the use of a light sensor.
  • Page 27: Positioning The De-Reeler

L1810 User’s Manual 2.2.3 Positioning the De-Reeler Ensure that the laser machine is in its final position and level before setting up the de-reeler. Position the de-reeler at the rear of your laser cutting machine so that the de-reeler controls are on the right side (the same side as the laser machine’s touch control panel).

Adjust de-reeler. The reflector is located on the rear of the L1810 and can be aligned to the Droop Sensor easily by loosening its bracket to adjust the height and left/right positions. NOTE: As mesh material could allow too much light to be reflected through the holes, causing the de-reeler to keep feeding the material off the roll.

L1810 User’s Manual 2.2.4.3.1 M ATERIAL RACKING ENSORS DJUSTMENT The tracking sensors are monitored directly by the PLC in the electrical cabinet. The gap between the sensors can be adjusted. If the material has a good straight edge, then a gap of approx 5mm will enable precise tracking to keep the material in the same place on the bed in the X-axis, reducing waste of the material.
  • Page 31: Vision System

L1810 User’s Manual VISION SYSTEM The Vision system is a state-of-the-art camera recognition is used to quickly scan the material and automatically create a cut vector. The optional Vision system offers two approaches to cutting: Contour Cut – Registration Marks: Registration marks are present in the cutting design so that the camera recognizes where the figures to be cut are located.

L1810 User’s Manual SETTING UP THE DESIGN Creating Templates Templates are design platforms which can be very useful when a standard layout or background is used. Templates can contain material information, effects, output settings, standard data (for instance a background layout which will provide guidance with the planning and scaling of a design), etc.

  • Page 34: Material Effects

L1810 User’s Manual Material Effects Material effects are extremely important as they are used to control the cutter. They control cutting depth and cutting speed, the power output of the laser, and the number of passes (the number of times the laser cuts the same line).
  • Page 35: Creating Material Effects

Velocity: This is the maximum linear speed at which the laser will cut. By reducing the velocity, the depth of cut will be increased. The velocity can be increased/decreased in steps of 1mm per second. The maximum linear speed of the L1810 laser cutter is 1500mm per second.
  • Page 36: Editing Material Effects

When the laser reaches a very slow speed, for instance on very tiny curves, the minimum power setting prevents the power from reducing to below zero. This is the minimum power output the laser will reach. Acceleration: not applicable for the L1810. Set or change the values as required. Click to save this material effect.

L1810 User’s Manual Registration Marks 4.6.1 Setting Registration Marks Manually Note: Registration marks should be 2 to 3mm large (normally 2mm is sufficient). Attention: The distance from a registration mark to the actual shape that needs to be cut, should be at least 10mm. If this distance is not respected, the camera may pick up the printed shapes and get confused.
  • Page 42: Setting Registration Marks Using The Aps-Ethos Taskbar

L1810 User’s Manual Note: The registration marks grid does not need to be symmetrical as indicated above: different distances can be used between marks. However, this would complicate the explanation. Save your work to either a PDF, AI, or EPS file.

  • Page 48 L1810 User’s Manual Once the Repeat Gap has been chosen this must be the same for all repeats (with 1 or 2 mm), because the camera uses this offset to automatically search for the registration mark to cut the next part once the material has been cut and fed: If possible, use a common row of registration marks between each design.
