Cleaning Impeller and Volute

Cleaning Impeller and Volute
1. Disconnect power to the pump.
2. Disconnect the pump from the discharge plumbing.
3. Remove the bolts that hold the volute to the base.
4. Separate the volute from the motor housing.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the motor housing bolts or screws.
5. Clean the impeller and the volute passage.
IMPORTANT: Do not use strong solvents on the impeller.
6. Be sure the impeller turns freely.
7. Reattach the volute to the base, making sure the seal is properly aligned.

Troubleshooting

Problem
Pump not plugged in.
Circuit breaker off or fuse removed.
Pump does not turn on
Defective motor.
Float switch or other level controls not func-
tioning correctly
Pump is air locked.
Pump will not shut off
Liquid inflow matches pump capacity.
Check valve installed backwards.
Check valve stuck or plugged.
Pump runs but does not
discharge liquid Lift too high for pump.
Inlet to impeller plugged.
Pump is air locked.
Lift too high for pump.
Low voltage, speed too slow.
Pump does not deliver
rated capacity
Impeller or discharge pipe is clogged.
Impeller wear due to abrasives.
No check valve in long discharge pipe allowing
liquid to drain back into basin.
Pump cycles continu-
ously Check valve leaking.
Basin too small for inflow.
There should be a bleed hole in the discharge

Probable Causes
Description
Corrective Action
Plug in pump.
Turn on circuit breaker or replace fuse.
Replace pump.
Refer to the float switch manual.
Remove pump and clean air bleed hole.
Larger pump required.
Check flow indicating arrow on check valve body to ensure
proper installation.
Remove check valve and inspect for proper operation.
Check rated pump performance.
Pull pump and clean.
Remove pump and clean air bleed hole.
Check rated pump performance.
Check that supply voltage matches the nameplate rating.
Pull pump and clean. Check pipe for scale or corrosion.
Replace pump.
Install a check valve in discharge line.
Inspect check valve for correct operation.
Install larger basin.
No corrective action is required.
