To install the unit:
1. You will need to install the PC Flash Ram Card into the slot in the rear of the unit labeled
"PC RAM Flash Card. Inspect the card to ensure that it has not been damaged in
shipment. Make sure power to the unit is "OFF." With component-side up, insert the
contact-edge of the card into the slot."
To install or re-seat the card, make sure it is correctly in its guides, and press the outer
card edge firmly toward the chassis. When the card is correctly in place, the Card
Release Push Rod will be approximately even with the outer edge of the card. If the Push
Rod is pressed toward the chassis, the card will be forced out of its socket.
2. Connect a phono cable from the audio out jack on the rear of the Satellite Receiver to the
"Audio In" jack on the rear of the Diamond DX unit. This brings in music from your
satellite receiver to the Diamond DX unit.
3. Next, connect a phono cable from the "Audio Out w/Ads" jack on the back of the
Diamond DX unit to your amplifier. This will provide music and messages. If you do
not want to have spots play, you can connect a phono cable from the "Audio Out No
Ads" jack on the back of the Diamond DX to your amplifier. This will provide only
music pass-through. If you want to have one amplifier playing ads and one not playing
them, you can use both the 'W/Ads' and 'No Ads' outputs. Of course, this requires a
caqble from each output. NOTE: There will be a noticeable difference between these
two levels.
4. Plug one end of the supplied control cable into the Satellite Receiver DB-9 jack, and the
other end into the Diamond DX unit's DB-9 jack (Serial Control).
5. The control cable is a DB-9 to DB-9 cable with 2 extra wires. See Figure 2-2 for a
representation of the cable. One end of the cable will be labeled 'Dx Control Data,' and
the other end 'Receiver Control Data.' See Figures 2-2 and 2-3 for cable diagrams.
Plug the 'Dx Control Data' cable end into the 'Serial Control' jack on the rear of the
Diamond unit. Plug the 'Receiver Control Data' end into the 'Control Data' jack on the
rear of the receiver.
There are 2 wires leading from the Diamond unit cable end. These are to conduct a
'Mute Alarm' signal from the receiver to the Diamond unit. The ground wire is black,
and the signal wire is red. These plug into a connector on the rear of the satellite receiver.
Locate the connector by comparing Figure 2-3 with the receiver rear panel. Look for a
connector block which has several connectors, and is labeled 'Service 1'. Two of these
connectors are labeled 'Mute Alarm' and 'Gnd' (ground). On some receivers the
connectors will be labeled 'Alarm' or 'ALRM', and 'Gnd' but serve the same function.
Do not use the connector labeled 'Audio Gnd.'
