    SECTION 1 GENERAL INFORMATION INTRODUCTION The purpose of this manual is to describe the proper installation and operation of the Wegener Communications® Diamond DX™ Messaging Unit. UNIT DESCRIPTION The Wegener Diamond DX unit is a satellite-delivered messaging system whose function is to store advertising material, or ‘spots,’...

    ! Event: A single scheduled command (e.g. to begin playing a spot). ! Fade: The gradual lowering of volume as one audio (ex. Music) “fades out,” and the gradual raising of volume as another audio (ex. Spot) “fades in.” ! Group: Indirect addressing method where a unit may be addressed along with other units who share a similar characteristic, such as geographic location, network status, etc.

    ! Input audio clip level may be aligned with PPL levels of Wegener audio receivers. ! “Music-only” pass-through output as well as normal selectable output. !     1. Diamond DX™ Messaging Unit 2. PCMCIA Card, Wegener P/N 24380-01 3. 12 VDC Power Supply, Commercial Grade 4. Cable, DB9 - DB9, Wegener P/N 18120-36.0 2.2 REQUIRED ITEMS You will need the following item to complete the Diamond DX™ installation: ! Two audio cables with phono plugs on each end to connect the Diamond DX to the Muzak audio receiver, and the Diamond DX to the audio amplifier.
  • Page 18 To install the unit: 1. You will need to install the PC Flash Ram Card into the slot in the rear of the unit labeled “PC RAM Flash Card. Inspect the card to ensure that it has not been damaged in shipment.

    With a small screwdriver, loosen the ‘Mute Alarm’ and ‘Gnd’ screws until the wires can slide into the slots above the screws. Make sure the red wire is inserted into the slot labeled ‘Mute Alarm’ or ‘Alrm’ and the black wire is inserted into the ‘Gnd’ slot. Tighten both screws until the wires are held securely.

    SECTION 3 SYSTEM OPERATION INTRODUCTION This section contains information about the operation of the Diamond DX™ Messaging System, including Network-controlled functions, Locally-controlled functions, and those which can be accomplished by the Network or under local control. Front and rear panel controls are also discussed here.

    FRONT-PANEL INTERFACE Refer to Figure 3-3 for the basic LCD menu system. 3.4.1 Home Level Screens 1. The unit should power up in the Home Level Time/Date screen shown as “A” in Figure 3-3. If the time/date has not been set by the network, then this screen should be displayed as [NO TIME/DATE SET].
  • Page 27 These alarms may, under certain circumstances, be masked by Network Control. This means that when the alarm condition is present, the alarm screen will not display. This will happen only in unusual circumstances, but if you have any problems which you cannot resolve, call Network Control for assistance.

    6. The [AUDIO CLIPPING] screen displays only during recording while the audio clip indication is detected by the internal audio processing card. 3.4.3 Front-panel Message Screens The ‘Network Message’ and ‘Record’ indicator screens are shown at the bottom of Figure 3-3 1.

    4. Delete Local Spot. Here, by pressing <ENTER> you can move to a set of screens where you can delete local spots. See Section 3.9. 5. Set Parity. Pressing <ENTER> will move the display to screens where you can set the parity for the Serial Port.

    d. Pressing <SELECT> will also exit this screen, but without changing the current setting. In addition to the two sensitivity levels, a finer gain adjustment can be made by Network Control. If neither of the local levels meets your needs, contact Muzak NOC for further assistance. SPOT RECORDING To record local spots, you will need, at minimum, a microphone.

    You can also play local spots back under local control. To do this, you again use the front panel controls and display. Remember that this will cause the spot to play immediately. See Fig. 3-3. NOTE: A pre-scheduled ad will take priority over a manually forced ad. 1.

    2. Press <ENTER> to move to the ‘Parity Select’ screens. [OddParity Enter] will be displayed. 3. Pressing <SELECT> will move you through the three ‘Parity Select’ screens and the ‘Exit’ screen. When the parity (Odd Parity, Even Parity, or No Parity) you wish to select is displayed, press <ENTER>.

    Removing the RAM Card could erase its contents, so do not remove it without good reason. Usually this will be done at Network Control direction. Once addressed, the card is not- transferrable. There should be no reason to remove this card. If Muzak NOC tells you to replace your Ram Card, you can quickly do so by following these instructions: 1.

They are also listed in Table 1-1, Diamond DX Specifications. 3.13.1 DC Power Input DC power is connected from an external wall-mount consumer-grade +12VDC power supply.
