  • Page 3 This retrofit kit provides all parts and instructions for retrofitting the 10 MHz to 50 GHz 30 dB Preamplifier Option 110 into the PSA series analyzers. The Option Driver Board from the kit is required to bias the preamplifier and to control the switch that switches the preamplifier in and out of the signal path.

  • Page 7 Installation Procedure Remove the Outer Case CAUTION If the instrument is placed on its face during any of the following procedures, be sure to use a soft surface or soft cloth to avoid damage to the front panel, keys, or input connector. 1.
  • Page 8 Installation Procedure Remove the Top Brace 1. Refer to Figure 2. Use the T-10 driver to remove the top screws (3) (one screw is under the security label), and the side screws (2) attaching the top brace (1) to the deck.
  • Page 9 Installation Procedure Uninstalling Option 1DS 1. Locate the RF section on the right side of the instrument. Figure 3 shows cable locations and the preamplifier mounting orientation. Figure 3 Preamplifier Location 2. Locate and remove cable W55 (SBTX to FIFA rear connector), E4446-20045. This cable will be replaced later.
  • Page 10 Installation Procedure CAUTION In the following step, use a 7/16-inch wrench on one of the wrench flats at the ends of the filter to prevent the filter body from rotating when removing the cable. Cables can be damaged if the low pass filter is allowed to rotate when loosening or tightening the cable connector.
  • Page 11 Installation Procedure 8. Reconnect cable W39 (low band assembly J4 to band pass filter), E4440-20081. Torque to 10 in-lbs. 9. Reconnect cable W56 (FIFA front connector to band pass filter), E4446-20046. Torque to 10 in-lbs. 10.Reconnect cable W55 (SBTX to FIFA rear connector), E4446-20045. Torque to 10 in-lbs.
  • Page 12 Installation Procedure Drop the Front Frame 1. Refer to Figure 5. Using the T-10 driver, remove the 7 screws (1) that attach the front frame assembly (2) to the deck. 2. Pull the front frame off of the deck until it is disengaged from the disc drive. Figure 5 Front Frame Assembly Removal 3.
  • Page 13 Installation Procedure Installing the Preamplifier without Option 123 1. Locate the Main Bracket (E4440-00062) from the kit and install it as shown (1). Refer to Figure a. Insert two screws (0515-0458) labeled as (2). Use T-15 driver to torque to 9 in-lbs. b.
  • Page 14 Installation Procedure 2. Refer to Figure 7. Mount the Preamplifier (0955-1617) to the Preamplifier Bracket (E4440-00075) with 4 screws (0520-0129) and 4 washers (2190-0112). Torque to 3 in-lbs with POZI-1 driver. Figure 7 Preamplifier and Bracket 3. Locate wire harness W106 (E4446-60076) from the kit and connect it to the preamplifier as shown in Figure 8.
  • Page 15 Installation Procedure 5. Refer to Figure 9. Mount the Preamplifier Bracket (E4440-00075) to the Main Bracket (E4440-00062) and secure with 3 screws (0515-0372) (1). Torque to 9 in-lbs. Locate switch SW4 (87222-60015) and Switch Bracket (E4440-00063) from the kit and secure the switch to the switch bracket with three screws (0515-1934) as shown Figure 10.* Torque to 6 in-lbs.
  • Page 16 Installation Procedure 7. Locate ribbon cable W91 (E4440-60455) from the kit and attach the it to switch SW4. 8. Refer to Figure 11. Attach the switch assembly to the main bracket with 3 screws (0515-0372) (1). Torque to 9 in-lbs. Figure 11 Switch to Main Bracket 9.
  • Page 17 Installation Procedure 10.Refer to Figure 12. Locate semi-rigid cable W103 (E4446-20078) from the kit. Install the cable from switch SW4 port 2 to the preamplifier input. Torque to 10 in-lb. Figure 12 Semi-Rigid Cables CAUTION In the following step, use a 5/16 inch wrench on the attenuator to prevent the attenuator from rotating when installing the cable.

  • Page 19 Installation Procedure 6. Remove the three screws (2) that attach the switch bracket to the main bracket. Lift the switch bracket assembly from the instrument. 7. Refer to Figure 14. Mount the Preamplifier (0955-1617) to the Preamplifier Bracket (E4440-00075) with 4 screws (0520-0129) and 4 washers (2190-0112) Torque to 3 in-lbs with POZI-1 driver.

  • Page 22 Installation Procedure In the following step, use a 5/16 inch wrench on the attenuator to CAUTION prevent the attenuator from rotating when installing the cable. The attenuator can be damaged if it is allowed to rotate when loosening or tightening the cable connector. 18.

Figure 19 Option Driver Board Cables 23.Connect ribbon cable W91 from switch SW4 to Option Driver Board J3. 24.Use the cable tie to secure cables W105 and W102 to each other above the input connector of input attenuator “B”.
  • Page 24 Installation Procedure Replace the Front Panel Refer to Figure 5. Position the front frame on the deck using the alignment bosses on the deck. Remember to tuck the ribbon cable under the fans when pushing the frame onto the deck. This will insure proper airflow to cool the instrument. Using the T-10 driver, replace the 7 screws that secure the front frame to the deck.

  • Page 27 Installation Procedure Replace the Top Brace and Outer Case 1. Refer to Figure 2. Carefully position the top brace on the deck. The alignment pin at the center of the web/fan assembly must mate with the alignment hole on the top brace. Make sure that no coaxial cables will get pinched underneath the brace.
  • Page 28 Installation Procedure Obtain a License Key and Activate the Option The entitlement certificate supplied in this kit allows you to obtain a license key from our Agilent website so you can enable this upgrade option. Once you have retrieved the license key, you can begin the process of activating the option.
