2.
Review the training materials.
Watch the short training video for a step-by-step demonstration.
Read the HeartStart Owner's Manual for information on set up,
operation, maintenance, and accessories. Store it in the carry case in the
pocket behind the Quick Reference Guide.
Review the Quick Reference Guide,
it to the clear window in the red carry case for use in an emergency if
needed.
3.
Decide where to keep the HeartStart.
Write your address on the Call 911 card on the
back of the carry case. (If 911 is not your
Emergency Medical Services number, use the
back of the card and write in your EMS number.)
Another Call 911 card is on the front of the case.
(Again, use the back of the card if 911 is not your
EMS number.)
Place HeartStart in a convenient, central location. It should be near a
telephone and where it can be easily seen and heard.
Locate the telephone reminder
sticker. Write the HeartStart storage
spot on the sticker. Place the sticker
with other emergency numbers so
that anyone reporting an emergency
will know where to find the HeartStart.
In general, treat the HeartStart as you would any piece of sophisticated
electronic equipment, such as a computer. Store the defibrillator where
the temperatures stay between 50° and 109° F (10° and 43° C). Do not
keep the HeartStart in the trunk of a car for long periods if you live in a very
hot or cold climate.
* The cover of the Quick Reference Guide provides an illustrated 3-step guide to using the
HeartStart. Inside are more detailed illustrated directions for reference if you are hearing impaired
or operating the HeartStart where it is difficult to hear the voice instructions.
