7 OPERATION

7.1 Operatiom
1. Follow the instructions of the «Installation» chapter.
2. Check that the emptying valve (20) is correctly closed.
3. Check that the vacuum breaking valve is closed.
4. Place the sample flask as shown on the «Installation» chapter.
5. Adjust the position and the height of the flask by using the wing nuts (39) and
(40).
6. Lower the flask with the lever (c). Be careful not to hit the glass if it is not correctly
adjusted.
7. Fill water enough to cover up to the middle of the sample flask.
8. Set the temperature. See «SET OF THE TEMPERATURE» chapter.
9. Turn the motor switch on and adjust the speed with the knob (k/i).
10 Start up the vacuum pump with the switch (e). You can see the vacuum level
on the vacuum gauge (22) which has a graduated scale from 0 to -1 bar. The
resolution of the vacuum gauge is 0.5 bar.
7.2 Temperature selection
To set the temperature of the water vessel, follow the next steps:
1. Turn on the heater main switch (30).
2. Set a new temperature with the keys (32).
During the process of distillation, the display of the thermometer shows the tempe-
rature of the distillation zone (29).
In case of probe cut or disconnected, the thermometer (29) and the temperature
regulator (30), show an error message.
7.3 Start-up
1. Connect to the mains and switch the main switch on (g).
2. Check that the drain valve (25) is closed.
3. Check that the vacuum adjustment valve (23) is closed.
4. Refill the evaporator flask (14).

5. Lower the sample flask with buttons (d) and (c). Be careful not to hit the glass
in the case the position is not correctly adjusted.

6. Put enough water into the bath to cover half of the evaporator flask (14).
7. Select the temperature by using the control panel (26).
8. Turn the motor switch on (k) and adjust the speed with the knob (j).
9. Operate the vacuum pump with the switch (e). The vacuum level can be seen by
means of the vacuum gauge which has a graduated scale from 0 to -1 bar (22).
10. Once the maximum vacuum is been reached (around -0.7bar), you can adjust
the vacuum level by using the valve (23).
NOTE: To extend the life of the vacuum pump, after reaching the desired value,
disconnect it until you see the vacuum is not enough.
