    The ResMed Astral is a portable positive pressure ventilator. It delivers air to the user until a predetermined volume or pressure is reached. It can provide a range of delivery volumes or pressures, has an adjustable breath rate and can be operated in five modes.

  • Page 9 Turning on To turn on the Astral device, press the green power on/off button at the back of the device. The device will perform a system check as shown on the main screen. On completion of the system check, the Patient Home screen and active program is displayed.

  • Page 11 ALARMS: The Astral activates alarms to alert you to conditions that require attention to ensure patient safety. When an alarm is activated, the Astral device provides both audible and visual alerts, and displays an alarm message in the Alarm display on the Information bar. As soon as the activation condition is met, the Astral provides both audible and visual alerts without delay.
  • Page 12 8. Alarm priority Alarms are classified into relative priority (high, medium and low) according to the severity and urgency of the alarm condition. Respond to all alarms. An immediate response is required for high priority alarms. Replacing the air filter Inspect the condition of the air filter and check whether it is blocked by dirt or dust.

    CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE: Do not place anything on top of the ventilator. Do not allow any water or other fluid to spill onto or into the ventilator. If a humidifier is in use a water trap should be placed between the humidifier tube and the ventilator to prevent fluid running back into the air outlet.
