Getting started
FortiGate-3000 Installation Guide
By default, you can connect to the FortiGate-3000 web-based manager using the
internal interface if you connect this interface to an optical network. To configure the
FortiGate-3000 without connecting it to an optical network, you can connect to port 1.
To be able to connect to port 1 you must connect to the CLI and configure port 1 with
an IP address and you must also configure port 1 for HTTPS administrative access.
To connect to the web-based manager using the internal interface

Set the IP address of the computer with an ethernet connection to the static IP
address 192.168.1.2 and a netmask of 255.255.255.0.

Connect the internal interface of the FortiGate unit to your optical network.

Connect the interface of the computer to the same network.

Start Internet Explorer and browse to the address https://192.168.1.99 (remember to
include the "s" in https://).
The FortiGate login is displayed.

Type admin in the Name field and select Login.
The Register Now window is displayed. Use the information in this window to register
your FortiGate unit so that Fortinet can contact you for firmware updates. You must
also register to receive updates to the FortiGate virus and attack definitions.
To connect to the web-based manager using port 1

Connect to the FortiGate-3000 command line interface (CLI). See

Set the IP address and netmask of port 1 to an IP address that you can connect to
with the computer with an ethernet connection and set administrative access to
HTTPS.

Example
To set the IP address of port 1 to 192.168.20.99 and netmask to 255.255.255.0 and
set administrative access to HTTPS, enter:
config system interface
edit port1
set ip 192.168.20.99 255.255.255.0
set allowaccess https
end
Note: The default IP address of the internal interface is 192.168.1.99 and the default IP address
of the external interface is 192.168.100.99. The IP address of port 1 cannot be on the same
subnet as the internal or external interfaces.

Set the IP address of the computer with an ethernet connection to a static IP address
on the same subnet as port 1.

Using the crossover cable or the ethernet hub and cables, connect port 1 of the
FortiGate unit to the computer ethernet connection.
