    The digital audio outputs should be used to decode the surround-sound soundtracks of DVDs with an external AV Receiver (Note: SPDIF output must be set to ‘RAW Bitstream’ in the Audio Setup menu). The 540D V2 sends an undecoded audio bitstream to the AV Receiver for decoding into 5.1/6.1/7.1 etc.

    Analog video connections The 540D V2 can output video in both fully digital (HDMI) and analog (Composite, S-Video, RGB/SCART and Component) formats. If your TV set supports HDMI then this is the preferred format (see next section). If your TV set supports only analog video the preferred connection is (in declining order of quality) Component, then RGB/SCART, S-Video and finally Composite.
