5 Insert the switch into the rack.
Take care to load the rack so that it is not top-heavy. Start installing equipment at the bottom and
work up.
Do not cover vents that would restrict airflow. Leave half a rack space between adjacent units for
adequate ventilation.
6 Secure the switch to the rack using suitable screws (not provided).
Free-Standing and Desktop Mounting of Multiple Switches
The Summit X150 series switch is supplied with four self-adhesive rubber pads. Apply the pads to the
underside of the switch in the marked area at each corner. Make sure that all corners are aligned. You
can safely place up to four Summit X150 series switches on top of one another.

Connecting Power

Connect the provided AC power cord to the input connector on the back of the switch. Then connect
the cord to an AC power outlet.
You can connect the Summit X150 series switch to an optional external redundant power module to
provide backup power for the internal power supply. If you are using the EPS-160 power supply, install
and connect it as described in the EPS-160 Installation Note. If you are using the EPS-500 power supply,
install and connect it as described in the EPS-500 External Power Supply Installation and Removal Note.
Removing a Summit X150 Series Switch from a Rack
CAUTION
Make sure that proper ESD controls are in use before maintenance is performed. This includes but is not limited to
wrist straps that are grounded to the switch chassis and earth grounds.
To remove the Summit X150 series switch from a rack:
1 Attach an ESD-preventive wrist strap to your wrist and connect the metal end to an appropriate
ground point on the rack.
2 Disconnect the switch from the redundant power supply (if applicable).
3 Disconnect the AC power cord from the AC power outlet and from the power connector on the back
of the switch.
4 Loosen and remove the rack-mounting screws holding the switch in place.
5 Carefully remove the switch from the rack and place it on a secure surface.
