Possible causes of a 300hp Mercury Verado engine not starting after 8 months of inactivity on a Boston Whaler 325 Conquest include:

1. Fuel Issues: Ethanol-blended fuel (E-10) can absorb water and cause phase separation over time. If this occurs, the engine may not start. The fuel tank may need to be drained, cleaned, and refilled with fresh, dry fuel.

2. Air in Fuel Lines: If the generator or engine ran out of fuel previously, air may have entered the fuel system. This would require bleeding the system before restarting.

3. Battery Issues: The remote battery switch must be in the ON position. After 8 months, the battery may be discharged or disconnected.

4. Ignition or Safety Switches: Ensure the emergency engine shutoff switch is in the RUN position and the engine ignition switches are ON.

5. Gear Shift Position: The gear shift and throttle control levers must be in NEUTRAL to start the engine.

6. Cooling Water Intake: The engine should not be started without water circulating through the cooling system. If the lower unit is not in water, the engine may have been prevented from starting to avoid damage.
