Blocking based on US TV ratings
Most b roadcast U S T V s hows—other t han m ovies—contain r ating d ata t hat e nables p arental c ontrols t o
block s hows t hat p arents d on't w ant o thers t o v iew. T he r atings a re d ivided i nto t wo g roups t hat
function i ndependently:
• Youth g roup – T V-­‐Y, T V-­‐Y7
• Main g roup – T V-­‐G, T V-­‐PG, T V-­‐14, T V-­‐MA
Within e ach o f t hese g roups, t he r atings i nteract s uch t hat i f y ou b lock a p articular l evel o f c ontent, t he
TV a lso b locks a ll c ontent w ith a h igher r ating. C onversely, i f y ou u nblock a p articular l evel o f c ontent,
the T V a lso u nblocks a ll c ontent w ith a l ower r ating. F or e xample, i f y ou b lock T V-­‐PG p rograms, t he T V
also b locks T V-­‐14 a nd T V-­‐MA p rograms. I f y ou s ubsequently u nblock T V-­‐14 p rograms, T V-­‐PG p rograms
are a lso u nblocked, b ut T V-­‐MA p rograms r emain b locked.

settings:
• Entire r atings – H ighlight t he r ating y ou w ant t o b lock, a nd t hen n avigate t o t he r ight a nd
select t he f irst o ption t hat b locks t he e ntire r ating l evel ( and a ll h igher r ating l evels).
• Individual c ontent t ypes – H ighlight t he r ating t hat c ontains t he c ontent t ype y ou w ant t o
block, a nd t hen s elect t he c ontent t ypes y ou w ant t o b lock f rom a mong t hose l isted.
Remember t hat b locking a c ontent t ype i n o ne r ating b locks t he e quivalent c ontent t ype i n
all h igher r ating l evels.
